Latest Wireless Technology In The Process Automation

The use of wireless technology in process industry offers entirely new
possibilities for the system operators to optimize existing production proc-
esses and adopt entirely new paths in the production.
For the operator this opens up a wide application field with diverse solu-
tions: WLAN, GSM and Wireless HART are technologies everyone is talk-
ing about at the moment.

STAHL takes this trend in different ways in account. In addition to WLAN

solutions for the hazardous area now we are also offering GSM/GPRS
modems and a Wireless HART gateway.

An important cornerstone for efficient use of wireless solutions is an „wireless in hazardous areas“
autonomous power supply, i.e. completely wireless solutions. The pre-
sented position switches and control devices based on the EnOcean tech-
nology function without batteries and external supply.

WirelessHART Gateway For Wireless Sensor-actuator Networks

The type 9715 Wireless HART gateway allows setup of a wireless network which com-
plies with the international wireless standard HART. Thus, users are now given the possi-
bility of integrating field units from different manufacturers in their automated solutions.

The package consisting of gateway and network manager provides users with uncompli-
cated setups and network maintenance. Due to its wide temperature range and high IP
protection of the enclosure in plastic or stainless steel the unit meets all the requirements

The wireless HART gateway is suitable for installation in hazardous areas of zone 2/Div 2
and is distinguished by its compact and yet sturdy design.

Remote Control Via GSM/GPRS Modem 9719

With the GSM/GPRS modem, data from pump stations or machines installed in a
hazardous area in zone 1, can for the very first time be transmitted to anywhere in
the world. Applications such as remote maintenance and monitoring have, thus,
become a child's play.

The modem can be installed in zones 1 or 2 without requiring additional measures,

such as pressure-resistant housings. The intrinsically safe SIM card holder as well
as the intrinsically safe aerial connection simplify operation by the installation and
maintenance personnel. The modem is controlled as usual by means of AT-

Completely Wireless Radio Switching Technology

The position switches of type 8074 and control devices of type 8040 are solutions
provided by STAHL for signal transmission via radio without any wires.
Neither an external power supply nor a battery is required to transmit a switching
signal. The energy is generated simply by actuation. Push button type 8040

The retrofitting and installation at exposed locations become absolutely easy and
lead to significantly reduced installation costs. Since the batteries can be left out,
the maintenance costs are significantly lower as well. Both switching and energy
generation are adapted to the extreme requirements of the process industry.
The enclosures of the position switches withstand even the toughest requirements
and provide protection according to IP 67.
