Established in 1949, Artistic Milliners is a vertical denim manufacturing

company with a strong focus on women empowerment, innovation &
sustainability. It has 14 units, we visited unit AM-6.

BOILER

A steam boiler is usually a closed vessel made of steel. Its function is to

transfer the heat produced by the combustion of fuel to water and ultimately
to generate steam.

Boiler that was working at artistic Milliners AM-6

Type of boiler:

Fire tube , internal fired ,Horizontal,low pressure boiler.

Fire tube boiler:

In fire tube steam boilers, the flames and hot gases, produced by the
combustion of fuel pass through the tubes which are surrounded by water. Fire
tube boilers are generally used for relatively small steam capacities and low to
medium steam pressure.

Boiler manufacture company:

Solarkaz international (pvt) .,Karachi.

Application:

Industrial purpose.

Steam condition:

The steam produced was saturated there was no super heater.

Steam Drum:

It was a drumless boiler it was sending steam to application area directly.

Capacity of boiler:

The capacity of boiler was 4 tons/h.

Steam Rate:

Boiler was producing steam at the rate of 2-3 tons/hour.

Boiler material and Insulation:

The material of boiler was mild steel .The insulation material was Rockwool
(ceramic).

Water Feed tank capacity:

The capacity of water feed tank was 24,000 litres.

Manhole:

We observed the flame within boiler through manhole which was yellowish
red at that time.

Passes:

It was a three pass boiler. Direction of flue gases was changing three times.

Operating Temperature and Pressure:

The rated pressure of boiler was 14 bar and currently it was operating at 6-7
bar and temperature was 168 degree Celsius .
Exhaust Teperature:

The exhaust temperature was 88 degree Celsius .

Blow Down:

They were using a continuous blow down after every 8 hours for 1-2 minutes
through blow down valve.

Repairing & Testing:

After every one year they use to repair if needed and test the boiler.

Water feed Pump:

The pump available was a multi stage centrifugal, with capacity of 8 cubic
meter/hour.

Boiler Mountings:

The boiler parts which are essential for the safely performance of boiler, or in
absence of which the boiler cannot generates steam, known as boiler
mountings. Boiler mountings are listed below.

1. Water level indicator Or Gauge Glass

2. Pressure gauge.
3. Safety valve (Spring loaded type)
There were two safety valves which were operating at 7.5 and 8 bar.
4. Stop valve
It is also called main steam valve.it was of globe type.
5. Blow down valve
6. Fusible plug (Made of copper)
7. Feed check valve

Boiler Accessories:

1. Feed pump
There was a pump having capacity of 8 cubic meter/hour.
2. Economizer
To reduce temperature of exhaust gases and to recover some heat they
were using economizer section.
BURNER:

Natural gas was available at 500 psi and they were regulating it by passing
through a regulator to 1 psi. Forced draught was used there was a fan and
servo mechanism to maintain air fuel ratio as per requirement.
