Course Synopsis: This course is designed to refresh your concepts of probability and statistics. Emphasis will be
on learning their application to engineering problems.

Introduction to probability and statistics


Concepts and laws of probability
Random variables and their properties
Probability distributions
Parameter estimation
Hypothesis testing
Regression analysis
Other miscellaneous topics - Bayesian decision theory, Tests of goodness-of-fit, Identification
of outliers, Causal Inference.

Course Evaluation: The course will be evaluated based on the following scheme:
Final Exam 45%
Mid Semester Exam 25%
Quizzes 20%
Assignments/Projects 10%

The final letter grade will be awarded based upon the cumulative performance throughout the
semester according to the following guidelines:

90 and above A* 50 to 59 D
80 to 89 A 40 to 49 E
70 to 79 B 39 and less F
60 to 69 C

Brihaspati will be used for uploading course material, assignments and marks. Please contact
