COURSE OVERVIEW
Calculus covers three main ideas: Limits and Continuity, Derivatives, and
Integrals and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. These three main ideas are
covered throughout six units.
“AP Calculus is primarily concerned with developing the students’
understanding of the concepts of calculus and providing experience with its
methods and applications. The course emphasizes a multi-representational
app
approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems being expressed
geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. The connections among
these representations also are important.” -The College Board – AP Calculus
Teacher’s Guide
The main objective of this course to give students deeper understanding of
calculus concepts, and the mathematical skills necessary for success on the
Advanced Placement Exam and futufuture mathematics courses at the university
level.

TECHNOLOGY
I will be using the TI-84 in class. You are welcome to use the calculators in class
at any time. If you are unable to purchase a graphing calculator, there is a free
download of the TI-84 in the application store (or HP Prime for iPhone users) to
use for homework. If you wish to purchase a calculator, please check
CollegeBoard.com (https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/takingtheexam/
exam-policies/calculator-policy) to make sure it is on the list of approved
calculators. Desmos.com is also a good resource for homework assignments.

ASSIGNMENTS
Homework will be graded for completeness and also correctness. I will random-
ly choose a few problems to grade, and this will go into your overall homework
grade.
Failure to turn in homework by Monday will result in 20% off the original score.
**For success in this class, plan ahead, and do not wait until the last minute to
complete your homework. Doing homework the last minute will hurt your
opportunity to thoroughly understand the major concepts of the assignment.
**the best thing you can do is complete the assignment the same night it is
assigned, that way you can reinforce what you learned in class. This also leaves
opportunity for you to come in and get help before it is due.

3. Refer to your notes
4. Refer to the solutions manual (found only inside Miss Tartt’s classroom)
5. Ask a buddy
6. Google (there are hundreds of resources online for calculus)

EXAMS
a clear understanding of the content before moving forward. Study hard and
try to gain an understanding of the content. I am more than willing to help with
test corrections, but there needs to be clear evidence of a deeper
understanding of the content prior to moving forward.
