CHAPTER 3

A. Research Design

Experimental design is often touched as the most “rigorous” of all research designs or,
as the “gold standard” against which all other designs are judged. In one sense, they probably
are. An independent is the variable that is manipulated in an experiment by the researcher. An
dependent variable is a variable that can change to an independent variable. Dependent
variable depends upon independent variable, as when independent will change, there must be a
change in the value of the dependent variable. An controlled variable in scientific
experimentation is the element which is constant and unchanged throughout the course of the
investigation.

In this study, banana and spinach served as the independent variable while the
effectiveness the dependent variable. The tile cleaning agent will be the controlled variable.

B. Research Instrument

Dear Observer,

We the observers, Graziella Iellamo, Jun Francis Decoy, Janiah Batusin, and Loyd Gabriel
from St. James The Great, are currently taking up a research class and we are required to submit
a research paper are chosen topic is “A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS of
EXTRACTS OF MUSA ACUMINATA(BANANA) AND SPINACHA OLORACEA(SPINACH) AS A TILE
CEANING AGENT”. Our main objective is to provide a tile cleaning agent mad from banana and
spinach’s extracts which is strong enough to clean tiles effectively but will not cause damage.

In conducting our experiment, we would like you to be our observer and kindly answer
the following questions below. You are required to use five as the highest and one as the lowest
rate.

Thank you very much

Respectfully yours,

C. Materials and Procedure

Materials

¼ cup of ammonia
4 cups of hot water
¼ cup of banana extract
¼ cup of spinach extract
1 empty sprayer

Procedure

The banana and spinach’s extracts were prepared for the experiment. The ¼ cup of
ammonia,4 cups of hot water,1/4 cup of banana extract,1/4 cup of spinach extract, and 1 empty
sprayer are mixed in an empty container. After the mixing process, the solution is poured into
the empty sprayer.
D. Statistical Treatment

Percentage- It is equal to the number of parts taken from the total number of observers. On this
study, Frequency and percentage will be used to determine the number of observer who gave a
specific rate on a specific statement

Five-point Scale- This is the scale wherein the observer will used 5 as the highest rate and 1 as
the lowest rate. The results were able to obtain the average. of all the observers provided by
sample products.

Mean- The mean of a set number is the sum if all those numbers divided by the total number of
values. It indicates a point around which the values of a distribution of score balance. Mean will
be used in getting the number of rates given by the observers.

T-Test-Is an analysis framework used to deterimine the difference betwwen two samples means
from two normally distributed population with unknown variances’-Test will be used to test the
difference between the variables of two normal distributions are not known.
