PROGRAM if you are interested:

FAQs about Global Exchange Program

1. What is AIESEC?
AIESEC is the biggest, global, non-political, not-for-profit, student run and independent
organization, exists in 107 countries that aims to develop its member to be a global leader that
ultimately would give positive impact in society by giving them a lot of learning experiences.
2. What do we offer you – what is AIESEC Global Exchange Program (GEP)?
One of the learning that we offer you is exchange (GEP). The exchange form is international
internship. GEP will develop you both personally and professionally. By having this program, IT
DOESN’T MEAN that AIESEC is a job hunter organization. We are developing youth who
becomes our member by having them held a lot of events, seminar and the MOST unique one is
EXCHANGE.
3. How long is the duration of GEP?
The minimum duration is 6 weeks and the maximum is 3 months, it depends on the project of
traineeship. The project is based on several issues like education, children, environment,
HIV/AIDS, finance, entrepreneurship, and so on. During this period, AIESEC hopes you can get
enough learning and knowledge about many things, and it would open your worldwide view, so
when you are come back to Indonesia, you can do something to make your society better.
4. What is the type of traineeship we offer you?
- Development traineeship(DT)
DT is one type of internship for all youth from every education background. You will work in
an NGO or a project with many people from different countries. Inside the project usually
involves cultural exchange from people across the world and cultural tour. You can choose a
project that runs an issue that you are passionate with, for example cultural issue, children,
environment, HIV/AIDS, and entrepreneurship.

5. What is the different of GEP than other internship programs?

- Experience diversity in terms of job and working culture
- A variety of leadership opportunities in different areas and have an environment that lets
you run with your ideas
- Develop you professionally and personally
- Alumni, strong networks, global perspective and friends all over the world
6. How many selection rounds to join this program?
There are 2 selections, they are:
1. CV and Exchange Participant Form selection. At this first stage we will analyze the
possibilities of the applicants to go on exchange. For example, from the organizational
experience, personal vision, etc. If you pass this selection you are eligible to join the
next process.
2. EP selection. That would be interview, focus group discussion and presentation. The
interview is to assess your alignment with AIESEC, since you would be AIESEC
representative later. If you pass this selection, you would be AIESEC member
automatically.

7. How much the fee I have to pay to join this program?

The fee you need to pay will be different for each stage:
Exchange participant Selection : Rp 150.000
Induction and Sign contract : Rp 1.500.000
Preparation : Rp 800.000

** Ticket & Visa to the destination country is liable to the exchange participant. While on
internship abroad, AIESEC only covers for basic accommodation such as lodging or food (for DT
internships).

8. If I’ve worked as an intern, could I be a permanent resident after that?

As stated earlier, AIESEC aims to develop you to be a global leader and make positive impact to
society. So, AIESEC hopes after your internship, you will go back to Indonesia first to share your
learning to us (we will have one event called re-integration where you should share your
experience there). If the company is interested on your skill and wants to make you employee,
you can have the arrangement by yourself and it is between you and the company (not AIESEC
anymore). So it really depends on how you impress the company while you are working there
that can affect their decision to further employ you or not.

9. What facilities will I get during my internship?

AIESEC in the host country will specify what and how you will be living during your internship. In
all Development Traineeship projects, it is required by every AIESEC host country to provide the
interns with basic accommodation such as lodging. Where you will be staying depends on each
project, mostly on student dormitories, project venue, or host families. On some projects, daily
meal is taken care of as well. But this differs as some project offer meals only on weekdays,
some offer full-week meal, some don’t provide food at all. Interns will be taking care of their
own transportation, communication, and entertainment means.

10. I want to go with my best friend/girlfriend/boyfriend/sibling/cousin to the same project. Is that

possible?
AIESECers all over the world provide and search for internships in one large on-line community
called myaiesec.net. There are many projects available in most AIESEC countries, and a project
may require as little as one intern and as many as twenty interns simultaneously. While there
might be room for more than one intern in one project, it is still a large competition among
applicants to get internships. So we encourage applicants to be as open-minded as possible in
choosing their preferred internships.
11. Okay, I’m interested. When can I apply?
Basically AIESEC opens internship opportunities year-round. As long as there is a country that
provides a project or participating company, there is a possibility to have an internship. If you’re
looking for a DT program however, it’s best to apply at least 2-3 months before your desired
internship start date. For example, you wish to go on an internship to China on early August.
Assuming that you need one month to prepare for visa, plane ticket, luggage, etc., and AIESEC
need one month to find you a project in China and take care of the paperwork. So in total, we
need at least 2 months. Add another month just to be safe, in case we can’t find you projects
soon, or there is visa trouble with the Chinese embassy, etc. So to go on August, you need to
start applying in June at the latest.
