1. Verify that all of the components are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation. Check all of
the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the O-ring seals and the components,
if necessary.

2. Apply Tooling (G) to all O-ring seals prior to installation.

3. Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of taperlock studs (34) . Use Tooling (D) (not shown) to install 33
taperlock studs (34) to brake anchor (11) . Tighten taperlock studs (34) to a torque of 230 ± 30 N·m
(170 ± 22 lb ft).

4. Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of taperlock studs (32) . Use Tooling (C) (not shown) to install nine
taperlock studs (32) to brake anchor (11) . Tighten taperlock studs (32) to a torque of 100 ± 15 N·m (74
± 11 lb ft).

5. Install two seals (35) to brake anchor (11) . Install 32 springs (33) to brake anchor (11) . Install 28
springs (31) to brake anchor (11) , as shown.

To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure


and wear protective equipment.

6. Position piston (26) , as shown. Position spring (31) and spring guide (16) to piston (26) , as shown.
Use Tooling (B) in order to compress spring (31) . Install Tooling (E) to spring guide (16) .

7. Repeat Step 6 for the remaining three spring guides.

8. Attach Tooling (A) to piston (26) , as shown. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) . Secure the
lifting device to a hoist. Position piston (26) to brake anchor (11) , as shown. The weight of piston (26)
is 41 kg (90 lb).

9. Install two seals (29) and (30) to housing (25) . Install two seal rings (27) and (28) to housing (25) .

10. Use two people in order to install housing (25) to piston (26) , as shown. The weight of housing (25) is
29 kg (65 lb).

11. Install nine nuts (24) that hold housing (25) to piston (26) . Tighten nuts (24) by one revolution before
proceeding to the next nut. Slowly tighten nine nuts (24) in a star pattern to a torque of 300 ± 15 N·m
(221 ± 11 lb ft).

12. Install seal ring (23) to piston (14) , as shown.

13. Attach Tooling (A) to piston (15) , as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) . Secure
the lifting device to a hoist.

14. Install two seals (21) and (22) to piston (14) . Install two seal rings (19) and (20) to piston (14) .

16. Install pin (18) to spring guide (16) . Repeat this procedure for the remaining three spring guides.

17. Install two 3/8 in - 16 NC forcing bolts (13) to piston (14) , as shown. Tighten the forcing bolts (13)
evenly until there is approximately 25.4 mm (1 inch) between the two pistons.

18. Remove Tooling (E) from the hole of spring guide (16) . Repeat this procedure for the three remaining
spring guides.

19. Remove two 3/8 in - 16 NC forcing bolts (13) from piston (14) . Install O-ring seal (15) to brake anchor
(11) .

20. Attach Tooling (A) to ring (5) , as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) . Secure the
lifting device to a hoist. Install ring (5) to brake anchor (11) . The weight of ring (5) is 84 kg (185 lb).

21. Install 51 bolts (12) and the washers that hold ring (5) to brake anchor (11) . Tighten 51 bolts (12) to a
torque of 310 ± 25 N·m (229 ± 18 lb ft).

NOTICE

To avoid damage to the braking system, do not exceed 4700 kPa (680
psi) when applying pressure to release the parking brake.

22. Install Tooling (F) to the service and parking brake, as shown. Apply pressure to the service and
parking brake so that the friction discs and outer plates can be installed.

Note: Lubricate friction discs (8) with Tooling (J) prior to assembly.

23. Use two people in order to install brake hub (1) , as shown. The weight of brake hub (1) is 54 kg (120
lb). Install the damper assembly (not shown) to ring (5) . Ensure that the friction material of the damper
assembly is facing toward the piston (not shown).

24. Install 12 friction discs (8) and 11 outer plates (10) to ring (5) in alternating order. Install damper
assembly (9) to ring (5) . Ensure that the friction material of the damper assembly is facing toward the
plate.

25. Install O-ring seal (7) to ring (5) .

26. Attach Tooling (A) to plate (3) , as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) , as shown.
Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Position plate (3) to ring (5) , as shown. The weight of plate (3) is 71
kg (157 lb).

27. Install five taperlock nuts (6) that hold the plate (not shown) to ring (5) . Tighten nuts (6) by one
revolution before proceeding to the next nut. Tighten nuts (6) in a star pattern to a final torque of 300 ±
15 N·m (221 ± 11 lb ft).

28. Install 35 bolts (2) and the washers that hold plate (3) to ring (5) . Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 310 ±
25 N·m (229 ± 18 lb ft).

29. Install ring seal (4) and the seal ring (not shown) to brake hub (1) .

End By: Install the front service and parking brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service and
Parking Brake (Front) - Install".
