characteristic of Simplex Glaucoma at Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital Medan
in 2012-2013.

Background: There will be weakness in simplex glaucoma eye function with the
field of view defect and damage to the eye anatomy. More than 60 milion people
have glaucoma and half the population of people with simplex glaucoma do not
know it.
Methods: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and
characteristic of simplex glaucoma patient in Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital
during 2012-2013. Characteristic include gende, age, and location of simplex
glaucoma. This research conducted with descriptive research methods and
samples ware taken with a total sampling method.
Result: There were 72 cases of simplex glaucoma at Dr. Pirngadi General
Hospital during 2012-2013 with prevalence 0,30% and characteristic most
patient are women (69 people, 95,8%), 61-70 year age group (29 people, 40,3%),
and location in left eye (56 people, 77,7%).
Conclusion: According to the study, most patients came from female gender, in
the age group of 61-70 years, and location in left eye. Expected to be beneficial
for people to be more concerned with their health and the education about
glaucoma risk in the whole population.
