We use bicep brachii muscle as an example to illustrate the important structures of

a skeletal muscle.
For the origin of a muscle, the biceps brachii muscle has 2 heads, the ‘long head’
and
‘short head’. Thus, it is called biceps brachii. ‘bi’ means 2.
This muscle comes out from 2 attachment points around the shoulder and goes down
along the
front side of the arm.
The proximal attachment points are the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula, and
the coracoid
process of the scapula.
The distal part of the biceps brachii muscle insert at the proximal part of the
forearm,
the radius bone.
The biceps brachii muscle is innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve.
The actions of muscle refer to how the activation of the muscle will change the
joint position.
For instance, biceps contraction causes the elbow to bend, which is known as elbow
flexion.
Another example is the deltoid muscle.
It is a large, superficial and prominent muscle that bellies around the shoulder
and can be
palpated very easily.
Deltoid muscle has three parts: anterior part, middle part and posterior part
The anterior part of the deltoid muscle allows the movement of the arm to the
front, which
is shoulder flexion.
The middle part of the deltoid muscle helps to elevate the arm away from the side
of the
body, or called shoulder abduction.
The posterior part of the deltoid muscle allows the movement of the arm to the
back, which
is called shoulder extension.
