platform for students to apply these concepts in varied scenarios.
 To equip the students with the basic concepts of Server OS and steps to select and install Windows
Server 2008.
 To familiarise the students with the various concepts related to configuration of Windows Server 2008
operating system and equip them with the process of configuring Windows Server 2008.
 To equip the students with the planning considerations in storage requirements so that they can apply
this technology in configuring local storage space and to be able to deploy the fault tolerance feature in
server storage on windows Server 2008 platform by utilizing the hardware fault tolerance techniques.
 To familiarise students with the basic actions on the disks like: Adding, creating and mounting a disk
and to make them equipped with the various working of simple, striped, RAID-5 and other volumes on
Windows Server 2008 operating system.
 To familiarise the students with the concepts of file sharing strategy and file accessing permissions on
windows server 2008 so that they can configure the files in the platform and access them.
 To impart the students with the concepts related to configuring print and document services on
Windows Server 2008 operating system in detail so that they can apply them in remote server and
service management.
 To equip the students with the steps to configure and install servers for Remote Management on
Windows Server 2008 operating system which includes steps to configure servers, using windows
Power shell web access, gateway installation and managing remote servers on windows server 2008
platform.
 To demonstrate the students with the steps needed to create virtual machine settings and storage on
windows server 2008 operating system.
 To demonstrate the students on the steps to configure virtual machine settings and storage so that they
can configure the VMs on the windows server 2008 platform.
Course Rationale: Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation is an operating system that enables core IT
resources, such as file and print sharing, remote access, and security. It provides a network foundation
from which you can centrally manage settings on your computers that are based on the Windows®
operating system, and upon which you can run the most popular business applications. It also provides
a familiar Windows user experience that helps you manage users and safeguard business information.
This unit explores the method to install, upgrade, and deploy the Windows Server. Also, the learners
will have the functional knowledge of configuring core network services and the active directory of
Windows Server. This unit provides the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and implement a
Windows Server 2008 R2 environment. It incorporates both the planning of the server infrastructure
and key aspects of the implementation, management and maintenance of Active Directory and
Network Infrastructure. It covers the most important job tasks for Server Administrators who are
responsible for the planning, operations, and day-to-day maintenance of Windows Server 2008 and
Windows Server 2008 R2 servers in the enterprise.
