The sweet little baby that is growing in my tummy got me thinking of all the cute hats I need be making in
preparation for his/her arrival. I loved the idea of making a lamb hat and I had to make a boy version and a
girl version since we don’t know the gender yet. There are lots of different yarns you could use to create
different effects and you can even add some felt accents to create a lamb face. I can’t wait to see what you
come up with! Be sure to post your nished hat on my Facebook page for all to see
Materials:
– Worsted Weight Yarn (weight category 4) – I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Silver Gray and Beige for
the gray hat. You can buy this yarn HERE.

– Bulky Weight Yarn (weight category 6 ) – I used Loops & Threads Country Loom Baby yarn in White for
the white hat and accented it with Vanna’s Choice yarn in pink for the ears. I purchased the bulky white
yarn at Michaels.

Note: This pattern is written for worsted weight yarn, if you want to use bulky yarn, follow the same
pattern but make a smaller bobble (see video) and take off two rows at the bottom for each size.

After you sew the inner ear into the outer ear, pinch the end together and sew some of it shut before you
sew it onto the hat.
Here is what the back of the ears look like once they are sewn onto the hat:
Feel free to add your own embellishments. I went ahead and added a felt face to my hat! I cut out the face,
eyes and nose from felt, added two black buttons for the eyes and stitched everything together and then
onto the front of the hat with matching yarn and a tapestry needle.

My friend Stephanie over at All About Ami recently made the most adorable sheep amigurumi named
Cotton! The best part is that her and I happened to use the exact same white yarn: Loops & Threads
Country Loom Baby! I think the hat and the amigurumi together would be a wonderful gift for child and
would also make the most adorable newborn photo prop. Click HERE to see how she made this adorable
little lamb

Hi Sarah,
I must say that I absolutely love this pattern! As soon as I saw it I sat down and made one in the
grey/beige combo! So cute! I just have one quick question for you, my bobble stitches are all dimpled
into the hat. No matter how many times I push them out they pop right back in. I haven't made anything
using this stitch before, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for such an awesome pattern!!!!

I too, like Emily Doyle, am having a baby girl that is due in October. My baby's initials are "LAM" so I am
looking for anything lamb for her. I saw a hat at the store that was close to a lamb but not quite right but
it gave me the idea. Your pattern is PERFECT, adorable, thorough, priceless, amazing, and more words
that I can't think of right now. Thank you so much for posting it for everyone to use! I will post the
picture of me and baby Lily wearing our lamb hats when she's born!

I made this in the 6-12 month size and it turned out darling but rather small for a 6 month old. Am I just
crocheting too tight? Or does the little girl I made it for just have a huge head? (not my daughter so feel
free to choose that option without me taking offense)

I used Bernat Satin and as it turns out that makes a much smaller hat than Vanna's Choice though
they all claim the same weight. Just a warning to others! Really learning my lesson here. But the
hat is really cute. I love it and the pattern is super easy to follow.

I've just nished making one of these. Had to adapt the pattern slightly as my tension tends to be a bit
loose. I used sc instead of hdc and it kept the tension tighter and bobbles more puffed out.
My little girl is being a sheep in her nativity tomorrow. Shall try and get a decent picture to put up.

Hello, Sarah! I'm not one who typically posts comments; however, I am compelled to say I am
thoroughly IMPRESSED by your creative and generous offerings on this blog! (My son laughed out
loud at the name of your site – "Repeat Craft-er Me…Ha! Funny, Mom!" I had my kids late in life, and
when they were in their early teens I came down ill and had to quit work; I took up crocheting (after a
20-year hiatus) to feel productive. I don't have grandkids yet, but am (great-) Auntie Sue to many nieces
and nephews, including little ones at church. It's hard to choose which projects to make; they're all so
clever! Your instructions are clear, and I appreciate your taking the time to create separate instructions
for different size hats. I've been trying to nd uses for a large skein of white baby boucle I was given;
this is the PERFECT project. Thanks again for generously sharing your creativity with those whose
minds are waning…. <3><

PLEASE HELP! I am trying to do the inner ears. It says to Chain 6, SC in second chain from hook and in
the next 4, make 2 SC in last chain…
Can someone please explain…If I chain 6, and sc in second chain, that leaves "4 free chains", then when I
do the Sc in the next 4, that leaves "0" free chains. Explain where the chain comes from to do those
"2SC" in the last chain…where is the last chain. Is there a typo in the instructions? Do I need to chain "7"
instead of "6", or am I missing something. Thanks

This is so adorable!! I just taught myself to crochet yesterday and got through this perfectly! My
maiden name is Lamb, so it's awesome to keep myself busy with the baby coming in a week or so!
Quick question: if I was to make adult sizes for my siblings to have for some silly family photos over
christmas, do I need to make the ears any larger? I feel like they might look a little small on a full-sized
beanie. and if so, how do I do that?
Thanks so much!!

I made the preschooler size hat and thought the ear pattern was too small as written–what makes
the original hat so adorable to me is the oversize oppy ears. To enlarge them a little, I did two of
Round 1 before going on to Round 2 for both inner and outer ear patterns.

Princess Lambmie had smooth curly hair, by using HDC instead of bobbles, only used for ear aps. I
paired with matching poncho, will send pic. Thanks again, Rosie;

Hi, I'm also using a ne yarn (baby wool to be exact) and i'm using a 3,5mm hook. I was wondering:
did you adjust the pattern? When I made it the rst time, it was too small. Now I'm trying to
increase by using the pattern for 3-6months, but it still looks very small… I guess I'll have to adjust
again (so pull everything out until round 4 and start over), but I don't know how I can estimate
which pattern (for which age) I should use… Is there a trick to do this? After yarning round 5, I just
can't judge if it's big enough, so I yarn round 6-7-8-9 and thén I evaluate… but that's not very
ef cient off course… Thanks for the advice!

Hi, Karen! You'll have to adjust the pattern (with one of the optional instructions) and I've learnt a
simple trick from Clare of Bobwilson123 which has helped me a lot and has saved me a lot of time.
You put your work on a at surface and with the measuring tape, you measure from side to side
and multiply that number by 3,14. The result will give you the size of the circumference you have
at that moment.
For example, you measure your circle and it's 12 cm wide, if you do 12*3,14 = 37,68, in that case
you get the size circumference of a 3mo to 6mo baby (look for charts on the internet for size of
circumference and height in babies, that it's really helpful).
Please, let me know if this has helped you.

Hi Marina, thank you for the tip… I'll check it out! Meanwhile, I saw my grandmother yesterday
and she gave me the advice to use double yarn (so 2 threads in stead of 1) and to use a bigger
hook. I tried this and it magically worked! So I still used the pattern for 0-3 months. I'm eager to
check out if it matches the size of an actual baby head :-). Thanks a lot!

Hi Marina Sibellino!!
I’m also working with a ne yarn and a 3.00 mm hook, so I’m following the 3-6 months pattern for a
2-3 months old baby…..do you think it will t her?
Thanks a lot in advance, have a nice day, regards!

Hi Sarah, I love this hat of yours so much that I’ve been struggling to make it for so long and am
determined to get it right…but keep getting my stitch count wrong. I have a question for you…do I count
the chain two as a HDC in the beginning? Could I crochet in a spiral so that I don’t have to join at the
end? I don’t know why I’m getting so messed up and landing up with funny holes in the join areas..
Thanks,
Malaika

I am trying to work up the hat. Does the chain 2 count as a half double crochet?

I am making the toddler/preschooler size and it seems that the hat just keeps getting wider…like a big
circle…instead of taking shape and forming to the head. Do you have any idea what I might be doing
wrong?

After chaining the 40 on the ears I had a long string coming off the ear, did I do it wrong?

Hi!
I absolutely LOVE your patterns! I just started crocheting a few weeks ago, and can’t wait to make this
hat for my niece-to-be!
Quick question- How much yarn does this hat require? (please tell for both yarn options as I’m still
undecided)
Thank you!

Hi! Just wondering if you ever got an answer to this post? I have a new baby arriving in just a
couple weeks and thought this would be awesome for newborn photo props, but I haven’t seen
anyone mention how much yarn to use and I’m still a very new crocheter! Thanks for your time!!

Thanks so much for the great tutorial! I made my toddler a hat for our church Christmas pageant,
cutest (wandering!) lamb ever. The pattern was very easy to follow.

Curious if you have a gauge for this pattern? I know aviator hat, I need to use a 4.5 to get the gauge
right…

I am teaching myself how to read crochet patterns. One step of the pattern has me stuck. What does it
mean & how to I complete this step when it says: chain 2 (8 HDC), etc?

“hello” you do a chain 2 in the stitch indicated and then you do the a one HDC in each stitch
around when it is in (8) that is how many stitches you should have when you reach the end of the
round.

Ok I’m lost on round 2….how do you have 8 of the HDC AND 8 bobbles? I have 4 and 4. Are you doing a
HDC and a bobble in the same stitch?

Yes, the instructions say to HDC and bobble in the rst stitch and in each one around. That way
you will end up with 8 HDC and 8 bobbles

Hello.. I love you patterns.. my question is on the 0-3 months when doing the ears.. it say to chain 8 and
then crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook… I did that and then it says to crochet in the next 6 and 2 in
the last.. there are only 6 stitches left so where is the mistake.. do I HD in the second chain from hook
and then the next 5… thanks for your help.

My name is Sanna. I just nished the lamb hat and posted it on Facebook page created for eager
crocheters over this side of the pond -https://www.facebook.com/groups/48325832465/.
Unfortunately on top of being closed group it’s also in Finnish language.
That being said, quite a few of the page followers fell in love with your pattern, but the snag is that they
are unable to follow English instructions. They asked me translate the pattern instructions to Finnish
and then post it inside that group. In order to do that I would need your approval. What say you?
Ta muchly,
Sanna

I don’t have a comment,but I do have a question, I just found this site, & saw a lot af cute patterns. I am
planning on making the lambs hat for a teenager. I am going to use Bernat Baby Blanket yarn ( bulky) . In
your explanation you said it could be done with bulky yarn , but you didnt say anything about using a
larger hook . Do you think that should be done.
If you could respond to my e-mail address that would be great! Thanks

Does anyone know the circumfrace for each size of the lamb hat. My granddaughter has a large head so
I don’t know what size to make. Super cute I would love to make one.

I get confused when starting with the magic loop. If I start with 8 hdc into the magic loop and join w/ a
slip stitch, I end up with 9 stitches around. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello, I love this pattern! This is my second time making it as well! This time I am making it for an adult
and I was wondering if the ears are suppose to be the same size as a baby’s ears or is there a way to
make them bigger?
Thanks!

I made this lamb hat for a 15 yr old. She wanted it made with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn ( which is thick
& very soft). I had to make several adjustments using this yarn. I used an N hook. After pulling it out
several times using the teen size, I ended up using the child’s size & only doing 9 rows & the ear aps I
used the direction for 6 mo – preschooler using 10 single crochet. It ts her good & she loves her.

I made it — but something weird happened that you might help me understand. All my bobble stitches
went to the underside and NOTHING I could do would make them pop to the top. I completed the hat
and turned it inside out to attach the ears. Why did my bobbles go the back and refuse to stay on top?
Any help you can give me would be appreciated. LOVE THIS PATTERN!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
