SPO sent mail in the first week of April with the procedure to apply for the
intern, which basically included submitting resume. Final selection was done
based on skype-interview taken by MAQ-officals.
SIPP
Through SIPP, application process is quite easy. Just have a good resume.
-
Visit the ONGC website, fill the online form/ take a print out of the form and fill
and send it to the concerned office with all the documents attached. The
deadline is in March and you find the details on the official website of ONGC.

SIPP has an online portal which keeps updating the startups who are looking
for interns from our campus and all the details like eligibility criteria , job
description , stipend , selection criteria etc, is mentioned on the portal.
Due to my interest to work in development sector I was looking for a social
start-up both through the SIPP and on my own browsing through the net. I
was looking for a CSR consultancy firm and fortunately the firm I was
targeting was coming through SIPP for hiring interns from IIT Kanpur.
First , their was a resume based shortlisting in which around 20 students were
shortlisted. The first round was a mixture of HR and light technical questions
related to their field of work .After the first round 6-8 people were shortlisted
for the second and the final round. The second round was much more of a
technical round which had specific questions related to their work , some mini
case studies and some questions related to working in a team . We got the
results after some days and I was the only one selected.
Talking about the program, prestigious SURGE, it provides an opportunity to
exceptionally good undergraduate students to execute an innovative research
and development project under the guidance of IIT Kanpur faculty.
The details of this program can be found on the site of DORA. The application
starts in next year January. The selection criteria is mainly on the basis of
CPI. A recommendation letter from a professor is required along with an
application form to be filled online.
The application details and the form comes out sometime in December. The
application process mainly involves 3 steps.
1) Select a mentor from your department and get to know whether he is is
interested in mentoring you in the summers or if he/she will be available.
2) Fill out the form and select any topic in which you would like to work. If you
have no idea what you want to work in ( like me :P) just ask your mentor to
help you out.
3) Get some recommendations from other professors and submit your form.
P.S the selection criteria is mostly based on your CPI and DR. The top 3-4
usually get it from a department.
IITK-NYC office floated the internship application procedure in Jan 2015 in
which we had to upload our resume, SOPs and other relevant documents in
snippets on a website. Call for internships were made on this website from
various institutions like NYU, UMass, Cornell, Stanford, etc. You could apply
to any or all of them. Once the professors evaluated your profile they would
usually give you a call via phone or skype. That would be your interview. You
would get the confirmation during that. The administrative things will be
worked out later including the visa, stipend and everything else.
Applications are through an online portal which contains various projects from
various teams. A complete application requires a letter of recommendation,
preferred projects and your resume. The selection starts in mid February and
is completed by March (It may contain an interview, a short listing challenge
(Happened in my case) or both). The rest of the process is easier compared
to getting through and you'll be guided by your contacts.
Application process starts in early January, but one must regularly visit the
SURGE website. It involves an online application form along with Details of
field in which you would like to work with your supervisor. Also it requires one
letter of recommendation from one of the professors who had taught you or
with whom you are working. Generally selection is mostly based on your CPI.
Firstly, You need to register om portal and then you need to submit resume.
After, that there would be interview.Interviews are mostly telephonic

My experience was just fine. The work we were made to do was a lot but the depth of knowledge was very limited. They are

A good experience in terms of Industry exposure. Not much to learn in terms of technical knowledge but a good way to get

I am a III Year Undergraduate from IIT Kanpur. A couple of months ago, like most of my batch mates, I was quite confused r
life. There was an increasing buzz of non-core jobs among most students of Non-CSE branches. This question was becomi
me to answer. I had to take my stand soon- because I had to sit for campus internships in a couple of months from now.
Somebody suggested that the best way to find out is to do an internship in core and non-core each. Then, simply decide for

industrial firm. I also sent some 50 mails in various IIMs hoping to get a Financial Project. There were a lot of ups and down
ups I had to do, don’t even ask about them.
One day I came to know my Grandpa’s uncle was working in Hindalco Industries. It was through him, I finally got to arrange
summers’15!! And one of my mails in IIM L was responded and I also secured a work from home internship in Strategic Mar

In the last 15 days of this internship, life really challenged me. IIM L internship had also started and demanded so much out

My overall experience wasn't good. The company has only one owner/founder and no other employee.
pros:
I got Rs. 50k for 2 months
We got free breakfast and free pickup from resident to office
The boss occasionally took us to expensive restaurants for lunch.
cons:
-Boss himself was mentor. His mentor-ship was very poor.
-The work involved analyzing tabla beats and characterizing them. We had to do everything by ourselves. Whenever we as
blabber something which went over our heads.
-1st month was good. But second month was really bad for me. He almost daily scolded me for things here and there. I just
go so, since I didn't know anything about signal processing or machine learning. And he wasn't there to teach me.
My advise will be that choose your internship very very carefully and avoid apping to startups having a single member only.

Hope you make the right choice and utilize your summers productively.
The work was not as expected in terms of learning or innovation. It was much relaxed and more like a reading project. I felt
