Session Guide: Oral Communication in Context

Episode Title: Walking Through the Curriculum; Deepening of Context; Demo

Duration: 2-3days

Resources Needed: Curriculum Guide, Manila Paper, Permanent Paper, Masking tape, Scissors
(6 pcs), Laptop, LCD, PPt presentations

Objectives: In this learning session, the participants will be able to:


 gain clearer understanding on the contents and processes in teaching Oral
Communication in context/ Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang
Pilipino;
 discuss difficulties/concerns related to the teaching Oral Communication in Context/
komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino;
 identify ways of addressing the difficulties/ concerns in teaching Oral Communication in
Context/ Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino;
 use appropriate strategies/techniques in developing particularly the complex
competencies (HOTS) in Oral Communication in Context/ Komunikasyon at
Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino;
 work well/collaborate in the discussion and presentation of outputs.

Overview/ Introduction:

This course focuses on the development of listening and speaking skills and strategies for
effective communication in various situations.
It aims to enhance among the students the desired competencies stipulated in the
curriculum, thus, expecting the students to employ the said competencies as they embark to the
world of their chosen career and specialization.
In the implementation of the SHS program, you were able to see the bigger picture of
your roles as a teacher to the development of the Filipino child through the discussion of the
common topics in NEAP namely: the vision, mission, and core values of DepEd, to be globally
competitive Filipinos equipped with 21st century skills.
In this session, we will take a closer look at the contents and processes in teaching Oral
Communication in Context/ Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino.

SESSION FLOW
ACTIVITY

 Setting the mood (checking of attendance/recognition of participants).


 Presentation of objectives; overview and intro
 Overview of the session (topics, what to do, expected tasks/outputs)
 Class is grouped into six (color coded). Each group chooses a chairman and a secretary
to facilitate the task. The chairman be the most seasoned-someone who has the longest
years in teaching among the group members and the secretary be the youngest in the
group.
 Ask groups to examine the CG (first quarter) and discuss findings on the contents and
processes involved in teaching Oral Communication in Context/ Komunikasyon at
Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino.
 Distribute copies of the CG, Manila paper, permanent markers, pairs of scissors, and masking
tape.
 Focusing on the first quarter, let participants work/fill the organizer

 Let groups post and present their outputs.

ANALYSIS:
Process the participants with the following questions:

1. How did you find the activity? What is the significance of the activity?
2. What are the recurring ideas in the group’s outputs?
3. What topics/competencies do you find difficult to teach? Why?
4. What other concerns in the discussion really need to be addressed?

ABSTRACTION:
 Discussion on the critical content/topics/competencies and/or processes – deepening of
the content
 Go over the given organizer. Identify (Trainer) critical contents/topics/competencies
and/or processes to show as an example to be processed.

APPLICATION:

 Trainer simulates a particular critical content (as identified) with an appropriate (model)
strategy.

 Each group undergoes demonstration of an identified critical content, competency with a


strategy.

Note: Demo runs from 8am to 5pm of day 3; one hour per topic or 30 mins. depending on the
time slot of the day.
