Climax 120
Intended use
The intended use for the Climax 100 / 150 / 200 series is
for storing thrombocyte concentrates and agitation devices
according to international and national regulations in a
stable environment of 22°C.
Work principle
The device is a self regulating climatic chamber. The
stability of the environment is achieved by sensor controlled
continuous temperature regulation. Temperature range can
be adjusted from +15°C to 25°C.
Quality control
The ability of quality checks on the products according to
directive 2002/98/EC Article 29 and in accordance to
determinations by the German Medical Association is
achieved by the implementation of the ECTF temperature
control unit.
Quality assurance
The product quality observed by personal is assured by the
following available system data:
Ventilation system
The temperature circulation system. The fans suctioning the
air from the lower compartment through the evaporator and
blow it out in the upper compartment area.
Storage compartment
Inner chamber compartment for storage of agitation
devices and thrombocyte interim products
Climax 150
The ECTF controller board contains the elementary relays and temperature probe
connections.
The ECTF is pre-programmed and compatible with all cooling and climatic equipment

The DMLP Monitor and the ECTF controller work both with NTC probes only. However the DMLP
can be equipped with an additional PT100 Extension Board. The PT100 Extension Board has
got 2x PT100 (4 wires each) input connectors and 2x 4mA-20mA output connectors. It is
connected to the DMLP via I2C bus connection cable. The use of PT100 probes is not a
standard for Climax devices. The PT100 Extension Board is a accessory for the DMLP to use
PT100 probes in addition.Alternatively option is to put PT100 probes inside the chamber by use
of the channel in the inner left side of the Climax and to connect it to any external equipment.
Printer
The printer is used to print reports and system info. It
replaces the usually used temperature recorder. The printer
can print automatically detailed temperature charts and
temperature tables. Values off limit will be marked. The
print outs are on thermo paper rolls.
Product technology
The Climax is generally a refrigerator regulated to 22°C by activating the cooling cycle and
heater periodically. The compressor of the cooling equipment shuts off at the set point. A
regulation pause follows until the temperature drops below the set bandwidth in accordance to
the set point. The heating turns on and raises the temperature and turns off at the set
temperature. A regulation pause follows until the temperature rises above the set bandwidth in
accordance to the set temperature; than the cooling period starts again.
The Climax 200 is the only Climax device which keeps the compressor running at all times.
Instead of turning the device on and off a valve goes active to cycle the cooling gas back to
the compressor and not to the evaporator. The pressure drop in the evaporator causes faster
heating in the heating period. The heating period causes a compressor stop only on Climax
100, 150 and Climax 120.
Additional delays ensure that the compressor and the heater do not switch on and off in fast
sequence. The settable delays ensure better system performances and extend the lifetime of
the equipment. The bandwidth (shown on display) in reference to the set point is usually 1°C;
measured on S1 (Ambient Probe next to the fans). The switching delay is usually set to 0.1°C.
The agitator has got its own power plug inside the chamber and is not regulated by the Climax
device.

Unpacking
Remove covers and boxes gently. Do not use cutters or
crowbar. Make sure the boxes have been transported
upright. Check tilting indicator on the outside.
Safety precautions
Check that the electrical plant is suitably sized for the
absorbed power of the unit
If the electrical socket and the plug on the appliance
power cord are incompatible, change the plug with a
suitable component, ensuring the replacement part is of
the approved type
Do not use reductions or multi-way adapters
It is important to connect the appliance correctly to an
efficient earth system executed in compliance with the
relevant legislation, and ensure a safe protective
conductor connection.
Positioning
Incorrect positioning can cause damage to the appliance
and generate hazardous conditions for personnel. The
installer must therefore observe the following general
CLIMAX 120 100 150 200
First power on
Starting ECTF controller
When 220V AC power is present both displays show a
standby message. The lower ECTF starts after pressing and
holding the OK button next to the display for about 3sec.
The unit is beeping and immediately acting according to the
temperature inside the chamber.
After first power ON, the device will show the firmware
version and the device program name. WARNING: If some
incorrect name appears it’ll mean the ECTF is pre-
programmed for a different device. All parameters have to
be checked
Alarm delay
Temperature alarms are delayed. The delays are to ensure that device gets time to reach
normal working conditions. Start making your tests after the delay time is over.
Factory defaults
The electronic boards have got ALL the same firmware. Every ECTF or DMLP board fits to every
climatic chamber or ECTF controlled and DMLP monitored refrigeration device. The default
settings are changeable by pre-set parameters. All devices are checked in the Lmb final quality
control. So basically all devices are ready to use. Refer to chapter Parameters to check default
settings.
Agitator installation
The Climax series fits to Lmb flatbed agitators. Install the agitator(s) inside. Use internal
power plug for electrical hook-up. Connect the data cable to the connector on the agitator.
Installation Qualification
Calibration principle
The Climax starts regulating the temperature as soon the
ECTF has been started. The regulation happens according to
S1 the AMBIENT PROBE. The probe is a NTC type and 0.1°C
accurate. Independent from that fact the device allows
electronically adjustment to bring the inner chamber
temperature to an average of 22°C.
Effect:
DMLP monitor (PROBES/RELAY s5) The change takes effect immediately. Double check on
display the ambient temperature and see if the change is
going in a good direction. That means that the value on the
21.3 °C digital thermometer (reference for calibration) and the
readout on the ECTF display show the same temperature.
See the calibration example on the left side.
ECTF controller (Pause)
Calibrating the DMLP is not scientifically exact!
22.0 °C Wait for at least two full regulation cycles before changing
the adjusted value again. (Climax needs time to react)
Calibrate: In most of the cases the offset value P15 CAL from ECTF is
good also for the calibration of S1 on DMLP P03 CA1. But it
DMLP: P03= -1.0 °C
need to be checked in any case always by using a reference
ECTF: P15= -2.0 °C thermometer.
The simple probe installation for external measurement devises can be done through the cable
channel on the inner left side of the chamber or directly through the inner rear side which can
be opened easily.
Qualification
Lmb differentiates between 3 methods of Temperature check of the appliance over at least 4h test

Print check
Print check should be done by selecting from printer menu
(M4) the option print parameter (P5/o5). The printer will be
enabled and print a list of all DMLP parameters. Please mind
that parameters from ECTF can’t be printed.
Parameters from the DMLP can be printed. This way the DMLP give a short protocol of
calibration value CA1 and the set alarm limits LAA (Low Alarm in compartment A) and HAA
(High Alarm in compartment A)

Battery check
As priority check of the Climax device during maintenance
both batteries the 12V and the 3V battery on the DMLP
must be inspected and replaced when voltage is too low.
The 3V lithium cell type CR 1220 is responsible for the system clock and DMLP will lose the
date and time setting and will ask for it when restarted. New adjustment of the date and time
will cause the DMLP to erase the interim memory and data from the last 45 days can be lost.
Furthermore all settings different from the factory default will be gone as well.
Cleaning
All surfaces of the appliance are resistant to standard
disinfection liquid and can be cleaned easily. The glass
doors can be cleaned with standard glass cleaning liquid
too.
Open the (lower) door(s) and remove the front side panel
by losing the front side panel screws on top of the panel.
Pull the upper corners of the panel towards you and lift the
panel up when corners got loose.
Watch the lashes on the lower corners which hold the panel
in place when putting it back!

The ECTF power board is the “mainboard” of the Climax device. Do a complete check out
before going back to microprocessor controlled operation. Refer to Chapter
ECTF Test and check the general relay functions fist.
Run INFO TEST after replacing the ECTF. See chapter Hardware Diagnostic
Run DMLP TEST and printer test after replacing the DMLP. See chapter Hardware
Diagnostic.
Display replacement
The Display(s) are easy to replace. They are interchangeable too. For simple checkout a cable
replacement can do. The display contrast may differ after replacement. The small
potentiometer on the side allows adjusting the display contrast.
Internal structure
All inner panels can be removed by unscrewing them. Start
from top to bottom. Place panels back by starting from
bottom to top.
An additional ballasted probe can be placed directly in the middle compartment by using the
implemented cable channel on the left inner wall. Apart from this it is possible to put such probe directly
onto the middle panel. The upper and middle inner panels are positioned to leave a gap in between. The
gap is wide enough to lead cables through it. For such placemnet only the the middle
and the lower panel need to be disassembled.

FAQs
The device doesn’t keep the stated temperature. According to the service manual it should be about 22С
+/-1C˚. How can we reach it?
We switched on the new Climax 200. After 6 hours, the display indicates the temperature 22°C. We used
a thermometer to test the cabinet temperature. But the cabinet temperature indicated by a
thermometer is 20°C. We want to know the reason and how to solve the problem.
The device is overheating and not keeping 22°C. What shall I do?
The temperature alarm is coming but temperature is normal. What can I check?
Right now the chamber gets to 21/22 degrees, but after a while the cold group does not act and the
temperature rises above 55 degrees. What can we do?
The display blinks "SWITCH" when we use the climax chamber 200. We checked the micro switches of
the doors and found the switches of the doors are in good condition. Please tell us how to solve the
problem.
The alarm for the door is DOOR OPEN. You can check the
function of the door switch by pressing and holding down
the TEST button on the DMP keypad. It starts to show the
battery power and asks you to open and close the door. You
have to test the door functions otherwise you will fail the
test. Turn unit also OFF and let it rest for a while. Turn Unit
back on but let temperature to reach set-point first before
starting the DMLP.
For how many hours the backup battery can ensure the proper temperature and agitation in climax in
case of power failure? Is the backup battery intended for temperature and agitation or only for
controllers?
