Proposed Title: Blended Learning Strategy as Remediation Technique to Improve A

Grade 10 Student’s Academic Performance in Science 10

A. Problem Identification

1. In my current position, I am concerned about

As a Science teacher, my priority concern for my students is to enhance


their comprehension and improve their academic performance in my class
because I want them to achieve mastery of the learning competencies in Science
10.
One of my students caught my attention because he was different from all
his classmates. Every class session we had, he pretended to be sleeping. He was
not participating and as a result, his academic performance was very low.

2. In order to prove my concern or issues, I needed to gather information or


data on

- different ways and teaching techniques on how to improve his


performance in the class.

- the things that will motivate him to participate and become responsive in
the activities in the class.

- different learning environments that will make him interested to learn the
lessons.

3. From my experience in using different tools and techniques, I found out that
the most important, urgent, the most doable and relevant problem or issue
that I needed to focus on is

- identifying and introducing different learning environments to my student


that will make him interested and motivated to learn.

Based from the following pieces of evidence

- students nowadays are more motivated to learn if technology will be


incorporated in the teaching-learning process.

4. I found the following as viable solutions to the problem or issue


Because

- these techniques will help my student improve his performance in the class
and achieve mastery of the science learning competencies.

5. However, among the identified possible solutions, I decided to implement

- Blended Learning Strategy

Because

- it is the integration of face-to-face and online learning to help enhance


students’ learning, delivering quality education beyond classroom through the
innovative use of information and communications technology. Blended strategies
enhance student and improve effectiveness and efficiencies by reducing lecture
time (Watson, 2008).

B. Research Questions and Hypothesis/Assumptions

The problem of this action research is stated as follows:

How can I improve the academic performance of my student in Science 10?

Provide a description of the identified problem. How did the researcher


identify the problem? Describe the persons/students who were affected and
the possible causes of the problem. What are the goals for improvement?

I have one student who transferred from Cotabato who was very passive in
my class. Every time we had our discussions and activities, he didn’t participate.
He just stayed on his chair and pretended to be asleep. I talked to his adviser and
other subject teachers about his behavior, unfortunately he showed the same
manner. I was worried because he was not responsive. I talked to him and asked
how can I help him improve his performance in the class.

My tentative answers to the problem are

If Blended Learning Strategy is given, then it will improve the academic


performance of my student in Science 10.

C. Purpose and Significance of the Study

- Learner – become motivated to learn and improve his academic

- Teacher – get better student data, less paperwork, and improve time
efficiency.

- if Blended Learning Strategy will be effective, this strategy will facilitate


enhancement of students’ comprehension which leads to improved academic
performance and mastery of learning competencies.
