Writing and Health will be integrated into Reading and Science Blocks with Social 
Studies instruction taking place with the support of Special Area classes and

Curriculum and Grading 
The NCDPI recognizes the NC Standard Course of Study (Math and Reading) and NC 
Essential Standards (Science and Social Studies) as best practice for instruction. 
We use all of these standards to guide instruction and planning.

that provide clarity on the standards for 5​th​ grade. 
 

Grades 3-5 use the 10 point grading scale below: 

A: 100-90 
B: 89-80 
C: 79-70 
D: 69-60 
F: 59 or below 
 
Technology 
st​
As 21​ century learners, students are expected to utilize technology ​safely​, 
effectively,​ and ​responsibly​ to facilitate their learning. 
All 5th grade students have one-to-one access to a Chromebook. Each student will 
be assigned a Chromebook to use while in school, though this technology will 
continue to be considered Eastover Property. There are ​explicit guidelines​ about 
proper usage of this privilege that we will discuss with the students.

Our rules are consistent with Eastover’s school-wide matrix of expectations:

More specific rules and guidelines will be thoroughly discussed in class. We will use 
a behavior matrix to communicate individual successes and/or areas in need of 
improvement. These reports will be distributed each week in Tuesday Folders.  
 
Flexible Seating 
This year, all fifth grade classrooms are implementing a flexible seating 
arrangement. This will provide multiple different seat choices so that students can 
choose a location that is most conducive to their learning style.
