How Will My Child
Learn Sight Words?
Each week, your child’s teacher
will introduce 1-2 new sight
words. These words will be
used and emphasized in all
lessons to show how the word is
used. Your child will get plenty
of opportunities to form the
words using alphabet tiles or
other manipulatives. At the end
of the week, the words will be
put on the word wall so
students will be able to
reference them later.
What is ‘Dolch’?
Dolch Sight Words is the most
commonly used sight word list.
There are 6 different lists
according to the relative
reading level of the child, and
in total there are 315 words.
How Can I Help
Them Learn At
Home?
You can help your child at
home by reviewing the sight
words with them throughout
the week. If you see the word
in printed form, point to the
word and ask them to say the
word back to you.
Make it a Game!
Your child will love if you make
their sight word practice into a
game. Make a Bingo game out
of the sight words they already
know, form the words using
PlayDoh, or get a stopwatch
and sight word flash cards and
see how quickly they can get
through them. Whatever you
do, make their learning fun!
