Visakhapatnam to get Rs 2,000-crore LuLu global


convention centre in three years

 VISAKHAPATNAM: The international convention centre proposed


with an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore at the APIIC
Grounds in Vizag is likely to be a reality in the next three
years.Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, in the presence of
Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister
P Ashok Gajapathi Raju laid the foundation stone for the
convention centre on the inaugural day of the CII Partnership
Summit here on Saturday.
The facility which will be built by the UAE-based LuLu Group,
will have a five-star hotel and a mall on a 13-acre site. The
centre will be utilised for the Meeting, Incentive,
Conferencing and Events (MICE), a segment of tourism in
which large groups, usually planned well in advance, are
brought together for a particular purpose.
The project will be grounded under the Public-Private
Partnership (PPP) mode. The centre coming up on Beach
Road in the Harbour Park area will have seating capacity for
7,000 people, a shopping mall with 20 lakh sft area and a
luxury hotel, the Chief Minister said after the stone laying
ceremony.
Heaping praises on LuLu Group CMD Yusuf Ali, Naidu urged the latter to finish the project in 30
months.“The project will be completed in three years and it will create more than 5,000 direct
employment, apart from indirect employment to 5,000 more. We are planning to complete this
project by 2021. It will also provide a world-class shopping experience to both tourists and the
residents of Sunrise State,” Ali said.The LuLu Group has made investments worth $2 billion (Rs
14,000 crore) in India and is looking for possibilities for more investment avenues in retail, hospitality
and food processing sectors.
12 new air services from V’wada airport in 2 weeks, says Civil Aviation Minister
Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said 12 new air
services will be launched from Vijayawada in the next two weeks. He said the Union government has
been focussing on increasing air connectivity across the State. Raju said development of industries
is dependent on the infrastructure available in a particular place and not on the incentives given by
the Union or State governments. “There will definitely be Centre’s support and the State government
should methodically work to sustain industrial development,” he said. Speaking to mediapersons, he
said, “There are two ministers in the BJP-led NDA government and there are two ministers in the
TDP-led State government. While the ones in the Union Cabinet are working towards the interests of
the country, those in the State Cabinet are working for the development of the State.”

Take VR tour to future Amaravati


Visakhapatnam: The Virtual Reality (VR) tour of Amaravati arranged by the CRDA at the CII
Partnership Summit-2018 was an instant hit with delegates making a beeline to have a look at the
vision of the State government. The CRDA officials said that the VR gear has been setup for the first
time to give the public a sneak peek into what the ‘People’s Capital (Praja Rajadhani)’ would look

like. “The VR tour offers the viewer the complete plan of Amaravati which includes the finalised
iconic structures like the High Court, Assembly and others. We are receiving a great response,”
CRDA officials said. As usual, Araku Coffee also stood as one of the major draws.
Six marquee tourism projects on cards
Visakhapatnam: Announcing that AP is in the third place among the States in India in terms of the
number of domestic tourists, Tourism Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the government was
now working on six marquee projects envisaging tremendous growth and potential for investments in
the sector. He said the tourism department has signed 56 MoUs worth H7,806 crore with various
investors, which would create employment for 33,123 people. “A Special Tourism Zone at
Madhurawada and INS Virat Museum in Vizag, Havelock Bridge in Rajahmundry, Bhavani Island,
Hope Island and Gandikota Fort will be developed with private participation,” he said.
