Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

The pool of tears
Alice tried to open them, but all the doors were
locked. And poor Alice felt very sad.
- How am I going to get out of here?
She turned around and, in the middle of the room,
there was a glass table. And over the table, a tiny
golden key glowed.
- Oh! It‘s too small; it doesn’t unlock
any doors! Alice grieved very sadly.
However, behind
a curtain, she
found a very tiny little door, and oh, how glad she

looked through it. There was such a lovely

was when the door opened! She knelt down and

garden out there! The most beautiful she had ever

seen. And she tried hard to go into it! But the door
was too small.
So, poor little Alice locked the door and put the key on the table again. But this time,
she found a new thing on it. It was a little bottle with the words “DRINK ME” on the label.
Alice drank the whole bottle, and she got smaller, and smaller,
till she was just the size of a little doll. She could now get out to
the garden! But the door was locked! And the key was on the
top of the table. And little Alice couldn’t reach it!
She was about to cry, when she saw a little box
under the table. Alice opened the little box, and M E
T
found a small cake that said EAT ME! EA
- Well, I’ll eat it! Something marvellous has to happen!

grew!
And she had a little bite. But nothing! So, she kept
eating and eating, until she finished the whole cake.
And she grew, and
And she knocked her head against the ceiling! She could now
take the key but, poor big girl! She
was too big to go through the tiny
door!
So sad was Alice that she sat down
and cried and cried. And all her tears
ran down the room, like a deep river.
And very soon, there was quite a
large pool of tears!

Snow White and Rose Red

Snow White and Rose Red
were two little girls
who lived far away
in a green forest in the west.

One day, one of them

was walking around,
when she saw a dwarf
fishing aside.

Very angry, he shouted

for help to escape,
“This crazy fish caught me
and it seems to be stronger!”

BRUSHES ALL AROUND

Horror
Spiders

Materials needed: black /red/brown dough, thin

steel wires
The class is divided in groups to make spiders
using the dough for the bodies and the wires for
the eight legs.

Skulls

Materials needed : white or black

thick paper, cutter, black marker or
white crayon depending on the
colour of the paper chosen.

Cauldrons

Materials needed: cardboard or craft foam, markers.

Divide the class in groups. Each group makes a

cauldron silhouette in cardboard or craft foam.
Inside them, they write words related to Halloween
or Horror and stick their production on the
classroom walls.

According to the students’ level of English, they can

write an acrostic poem or a magic spell on the
cauldron using vocabulary related to the topic. In
turns, each group shares their spells with the class.

You may want to discuss rhyme, and do an activity

to find rhyming words before letting students work
on their poems. With older students, you can
present other poetic devices and ask them to
reproduce them in their own works.
