Digital Power Line Carrier

STE-D
Overview

STE-D is a terminal equipment for

power lines data transmission.

equipment can manage different types
of user interfaces, multiplexing voice
and data tributary channels in the
aggregate stream.

STE-D with optional Drop-Insert

function works as a network node in
TDM networks.

Main Units: DIGITAL PROCESSING UNIT

The Digital Processing Unit (DPU) is divided in three main functional blocks:
· High Frequency
· Base Band
· Alignment
High Frequency section covers the modulator and demodulator, and the scrambler and
descrambler functions and provides channelling.
Base Band section carries out:
· in transmission: Trellis coding (64 TCM) and data flow composition
· in reception: 64 TCM decoding and equalizing
Alignment section constitutes the interface to the 64kb/s data bus:
· transmission and receipt overhead management
· X.50 frame alignment
The functions of each section are developed by a DSP.

STE-D
Main Units: TX FILTER
STE-D
Main Units: TX FILTER

• The transmission filter receives the signal from the amplifier (in case of two amplifies a sum
circuit is activated).

• The bandwidth can be set at steps of 4kHz from 40 to 500 kHz using jumpers.
STE-D
Main Units: RX FILTER
STE-D
Main Units: RX FILTER

• The RX filter profiles the signal in order to eliminate adjacent bands.

• The working band of 16kHz is set by steps of 4kHz from 40 to 500kHz by using jumpers.
STE-D
Main Units: POWER AMPLIFIER
STE-D
Main Units: POWER AMPLIFIER

• The Power Amplifier Unit (PAU) receives signals from the Digital Processing Unit in the
40 ÷ 500 kHz band, and amplifies them by means of an initial differential stage, followed
by two drivers and a final push-pull stage, thus obtaining linear amplification of 29dB
across the band.

• Each power unit can supply up to 20W of continuous HF power.

STE-D
Main Units: POWER SUPPLY
STE-D
Main Units: POWER SUPPLY

• The Power Supply (PSU) consists of a single Height Dependability unit, available in two
versions:

85 W 24 ÷ 48 V / +5 V, –5 V, -30 V converter

150 W 48 V / +5 V, –5 V, -30 V converter

which can be used according to the equipment power class.

Service Interfaces

Synchronisation interface
STE-D is provided with a 2048 kHz / ITU-T G.703 synchronisation interface, for clock
signal generated by GPS devices or SDH network.

Management interfaces
The Management interface is Ethernet 10BaseT with RJ 45 type connector.
It also available a ITU-TV.28 management interface dedicated to a Local Element
Manager connection (CT interface).

Alarms interface
The Alarm interface reports the network and the equipment summary alarms, trough
dedicated relays contacts (more details available in General Technical Description
document).
STE-D
Management system

A Management System is available with graphical interface for an easy and intuitive use.

It is realized on a PC platform with Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP Operating System, and the

following functions:

- Configuration management
- Alarms diagnostic
- Software updating

It is also possible the Management using a non-proprietary Management System since STED
Information Model (MIB) is available in syntax compliant with International IETF SMI.
