B) Explain Rankine cycle with p-V and T-s diagram. Derive also the expression for its efficiency. (08)

B) A reversible heat engine operates between two reservoirs at C and C. The engine drives (08)
a reversible refrigerator which operates between the same C reservoir and reservoir
at C. The heat absorbed by engine is 2500 kJ and there is a network output of 400 kJ from
the combined plant. Evaluate the heat transfer to refrigerator and net heat transfer to C
reservoir.
Q.4 A) Explain diesel cycle with p-V and T-s diagram and derive the expression for its efficiency. (07)

A) A cylinder contains 0.45 of a gas at N/ and C. The gas is compressed to a volume (07)
of 0.13 , the final pressure being 5× N/ . Determine: (i) mass of gas, (ii) value of index
‘n’ for compression, (iii) Increase in internal energy of the gas, (iv) Heat rejected or received by
the gas during compression. Take ɤ=1.4, R=294.2 J/Kg 0C.
