=r aaWe live in a highly competitive era where all our career choices and
our efforts determine the quality of life in the future. We are expect-
ed to be clear about our dreams and the career paths leading to-
wards them.
A good mentor will surely help us understand our strengths and
‘weaknesses and then match therm with our skills and interests so
that we can ensure a smooth path towards our dreams. If we find
someone to tell us "let's go do it" instead of "you go do it", it can
surely help kindle the fire and bring out the spark in us which might
otherwise remain undiscovered.
So here comes the IITB ASMP team to provide you the right guid-
ance and support from people who have successfully completed
their journey and are ready to effortlessly shower their valuable guid-
ance and support - the alumni. You can't change the direction of
wind but an alumni can surely help you to adjust your sails to help
you reach your destination.
As a result, you will be able to make strategic and informed decisions
regarding your academic and professional life.
Nobody can go back and start a new beginning
but anyone can start today and make a new ending

The program is not just limited to the conventional job-internship
scene it aims to be much more than that, it is mentoring for life.
1) Break the ice
You don't need to be shy or hesitant while approaching your mentor,
he has been through the same phases and knows about the difficul-
ties that you might be currently facing. A good mentor-mentee rela-
tionship can only be successful if the mentee is proactive. There are
breaking the ice sessions for you to get to know your mentor. Try to
learn about your mentor’s experiences, it will help you connect with
them.
2) Make the most of the time available
Mentors are busy people. Be prepared before each conversation with
questions you want to ask and topics you want to discuss. You will
also overcome any inherent shyness if you are prepared.
3) Building the relationship
Once you have established a good relation with your mentor. Seek
guidance for seeking a job or an internship in the field, also try to
visit his/her workplace to boost knowledge. Let your mentor have a
look at your resume/portfolio/Cv.

4) Do not lose contact
These days everybody seems to be busy but to get most out of the
mentorship experience, it is of utmost importance to remain in
contact with your mentor. Write an email every 2-3 weeks or call
them whichever is predetermined mode of communication, updat-
ing them on your progress. Even it there comes some time you hav-
en't been in touch with your mentor feel free to get back in touch,
mentors will always be more than happy to help you, The objective of
the programs is to create bonds that last a lifetime so try and stay in
contact even after the ASMP program.
5) Stay positive
Do not get bogged down by criticism. Your mentor is trying to help
you improve, so take everything he says in a positive manner. It is
human nature to feel hurt when we feel our efforts have not been
properly acknowledged but be it is very important to remember that
the menter always aims to act in your best interests.
Note: If you are unable to contact your mentor, or your mentor
rarely responds, please contact one of the ASMP heads.
Sige ASMPAllocation:
The alumni mentors with the freedom to choose their number of
mentees, are allocated in manner such that the students and the
mentors have aligned interests in their career fields. Alumni and stu-
dents work in coordination to decide frequency and the mode of
their communication to build these relationship in the manner that
suits their convenience.
Break the Ice:
The first one-on-one interaction between the alumni and students
takes place at this event which marks the beginning of the program.
With the primary objective to acquaint students with their alumni,
this interaction will help foster mentor and mentee relationship
which is essential for years to come. This will also encourage alumni
to go out of their way to help students in their personal as well as in-
stitute life.
ASMP diaries:
This program also encourages feedback on a personal level and in-
cludes these as a part of ASMP diaries. The feedback taken at regular
intervals will be included as a part of the ASMP diaries.
Sige ASMPShadow program:
An integrated approach to mentoring is the shadow program which
aims to give the students a job shadowing experience. Career explo-
ration opportunity is provided, with mentors introducing mentees to
their co-workers, showing them around their office and sites. This
gives the students an important insight into the work environment
and also aims to improve the one on one raport of the students and
the alumni.
Video Calling:
This year, to encourage communication on a regular basis, the team
aims to introduce Skype calling sessions between mentors and men-
tees so the treasured bond never loses its touch. This is to encourage
alumni who aren't able to be present in person are able to remainin
contact with their mentees.
Sige ASMPThe ASMP program follows a very strict moral code of conduct with
rules in place to respect the time the mentor's gives in for the bene-
fit of the students
- Follow through on negotiated meeting schedules, deadlines, roles
and responsibilities.
- Ifa mentoring conversation must be cancelled, it is expected that
you and your mentor will do your best to communicate well in ad-
vance of the meeting and reschedule.
- If circumstances prohibit you or your mentor from participating in
the program prior to the end of a term, each party must agree to
notify their mentoring partner and ASMP team
Note: Please refrain from asking direct favours. This is against the
spirit of the program. STRICT ACTION will be taken against any
cases of misbehaviour and direct favour seeking (in the form of in-
ternships etc.).
