3.5.1 QCX ENGINEERING
The QCX system is supplied configured with the basic QCX/Manager sw module
and other applicable QCX software modules, communication drivers for the
relevant analytical and sample preparation equipment and the relevant process
I/O communication driver; tested prior to delivery, ready for installation and on-
site configuration of key parameters.
All major equipment components will undergo Inspection/Equipment Acceptance
Test at own and/or manufacturers workshop before shipping.

Functionality
A QCX/RoboLabTM system is a fully automatic sample preparation set-up.
It can be in a circular flexible layout with a central robot, or in a more fixed linear
setup. The incoming samples may be automatically sampled and sent via a
pneumatic system (QCX/AutoSampling) to the RoboLab system. Those samples
not arriving with pneumatic transport system can be entered into the
QCX/RoboLabTM system manually by placing sample cups in a sample input rack or
on conveyers.
Each sample has an attached sample preparation recipe. This recipe decides the
samples way through the automated system. The sample portions for X-ray
analysis is dosed, fine ground, pressed or fused and analyzed without any human
interference. For other analyzes a second sample portion is dosed and presented
to the analyzer. All sample tracking, preparation data as well as analytical data is
stored in the QCX software.
QCX/RoboLabTM
Engineering services
A typical project scope of supply includes inspections/factory acceptance test of
major equipment components at own and/or manufacturers workshop
The QCX® PC system is supplied configured with the basic QCX/ManagerTM module
and other applicable QCX® software modules, communication drivers for the
relevant analytical & sample preparation equipment and the relevant process I/O
communication driver; and tested prior to delivery, ready for installation and on-
site configuration of key parameters.
The project specific equipment scope of supply may include high precision
balances integrated in the units (example: high precision dosing for the XRF fusion
method). Such high precision balances are sensitive to vibrations. The installation
instruction provided from balance supplier/FLSmidth will describe adequate
installation requirements to eliminate the effect from ‘normal’ vibration levels in a
laboratory environment. Excessive vibration levels affecting the lab building
structure (example: vibrations from vertical mills) may require additional, non-
standard installation precautions. FLSmidth expects to be informed beforehand if
conditions with excessive vibration levels prevail at the intended installation
location.
Supply requirements
Typical requirements are power: 3x440V and compressed air: 6 bar, dry and oil-
free. It is advisable to connect the QCX PC, the PLC and the X-ray equipment to
an UPS.
