1 Description

1.1 General functional description

The gripper star has the function of transporting one or more articles from a tray or a conveyor
to another conveyor or cross conveyor.

A rotating wheel on which article pick-ups are fixed is moved by a extern machine, e.g. a pol-
ishing machine. A part is gripped by the pick-ups and transferred on to the following device.
The gripper is actuated by a cam.

1.2 Function sequence

An article arrives from a preceding device (e.g. conveyor belt or fire polishing machine). The
movements of the machine are synchronised via gears and/or chains. The article is picked up
and transferred on to the following device. At a specific position, the gripper is opened by a cam
and the article carried no further, being transported onward by the following device.

1.3 Setting up and connecting

The gripper star is mounted on the conveyor fire polishing machine or a separate frame. Prefer
mounting it onto the driving machine. The height of gripper star is adjusted so that the gripper
takes the articles at upper third.

Necessary connections:

Mechanical: Connect the input shaft of gear unit with the driving machine. Observe correct
synchronising.

2 Machine assemblies
The gripper star is driven by a extern machine via a chain wheel. Fixed on the star wheel are ar-
ticle gripper. The gripper claws must be exchanged depending on the article concerned.

The height of gripper can be adjusted according to the image. The opening and closing position
of the gripper can be adjusted with a lever below the wheel by rotating the cam.

3 Control
Gripper star is mechanically connected to the upstream machine, so it runs and stops together
with that machine.

4 Maintenance
The machine should be cleaned at regular intervals to remove coarse dirt particles, lubricant
residues and other contamination. All bright machine parts should be thinly oiled at regular inter-
vals to prevent corrosion.
