Piecewise Function Creation

Weight 1

Goal. In this assignment you will learn more about piecewise functions and the differences between a limit existing,
continuity, and differentiability.

Technical Requirements. For each of the areas specified below, give the equation and draw the graph of a
piecewise function that fits the criteria of the area and justify that it meets those requirements.

When 𝑥 = 𝑎, a function 𝑓(𝑥) will fit in one and only one of the following areas:

1. The function is continuous but not differentiable at 𝑎.

2. The function is differentiable at 𝑎.

Assessment. Every student must submit for assessment:

1) A completed assignment- 2 piecewise functions, each complete with equation, graph, and proof. You must show
(prove) why your piecewise function meets the criteria.
2) Submit a hard copy on the due date. Late submissions will not receive full credit.
