● What is SCB? Makayla introduced what SCB is.

○ Mission Statement: The LSSU Chapter Society for Conservation Biology
promotes conservation awareness through education and community involvement.
By utilizing the combined efforts of various disciplines, we work toward
establishing a sustainable future.
○ Our Goals:
■ 1. Continue to promote recycling and sustainability around Lake State
Campus.
■ 2. Work on public education and outreach regarding environmental
concerns around the community.
■ 3. Promote and organize Laker Woods Restoration Project
○ $5 dues/year - Helps us fund our events and helps pay for the officer’s
memberships to the global society every year.
● Laker Woods Restoration Project - Join the Committee!
○ Prior use was a trailer park for student housing decades ago, currently an aspen
monoculture with no current maintenance
○ Reclaim it from its past, restore to a diverse woodland
○ Recreation trails for birding and walking/running
○ Become a welcoming place on campus for all students to enjoy
○ Provide SCB members with opportunities to acquire hard and soft skills
applicable to their major and future profession
● Upcoming Events:
○ Camping trip to Canada to see the Northern Lights - TBD Grant is organizing
○ Sept: Hike, birding and tree ID included - survey for date/time Brendan is
organizing
○ Sept/Oct: Phrag and Buckthorn removal with CISMA - survey for dates/time
Waiting on permissions
○ Oct: Litter removal in Laker Woods - survey for date/time
○ Oct: Dr. Allan Scotch Pine Pulling - Oct 6 or Oct 13

Vote outcome: October 13th works best for the students
○ Nov 3: Great Lake State Weekend, Bird Beak Evolution table sign up sheet went
around and for all following TBD events.
○ Oct/Nov?: Can/Bottle drive - fundraising - TBD
○ November: Construct Emerald Ash Borer Traps - during meeting time
○ Dec/Jan?: Construct Bird/Bat Houses - during meeting time
○ Feb: Fundraising event - TBD
○ Feb 15-18: Great Backyard Bird Count
○ March/April: Spring Symposium
