Dear Mrs. Staashelm:

My experience as vice president of my community’s Main Street committee and as a youth

officer on the Dekko Foundation Phish committee makes me an ideal candidate for the student
administrative position at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. The school
of Philanthropy is known for its ability to empower students and ignite change in the world,
corresponding to my own life mission.

My volunteer work throughout high school and my youth-adult partnership with the Dekko
Foundation has confirmed my interest in and dedication to philanthropy and my community. By
volunteering and organizing free-admission youth pod retreats, I was able to connect youth
philanthropists across the nation and encourage individual youth philanthropy pods to
ameliorate their community involvement and leadership. Moreover, by participating in
Leadership Whitley County (LWC)-- a program that has engendered a myriad of over 300
leaders in Columbia City, Churubusco, and South Whitley since 2001-- I am better able to excel
in the workplace and serve my community. LWC taught me an overview of the qualities of a
good leader, while also allowing me to put these qualities into practice through public speaking,
group activities, and service. Because of my previous experience with leadership and service, I
now look forward to engaging in administrative positions and serving as humanitarianism
advocate.

Thank you for reviewing my application. Should you have any questions, you may reach me
using the contact information listed above.

Sincerely,

Maren Lehman
