Quiet Time is a daily time set aside to build a relationship with God through prayer, Bible reading, and meditation. It involves being alone with God without distractions. It is simply a time for us to get away and build a relationship with God. As in any good relationship, getting to know someone and growing to love and trust them takes time. It means setting aside time each day to be alone with God-just you and God –no one else, no radio, no TV. It is our daily appointed time with God, away from nagging responsibilities and distractions.
Why do we need QT?
In order to build our relationship with the loving God who created us and knows us better than anyone. Listen- We try to listen how God is speaking to us from His Word through His Holy Spirit to seek His guidance to be and live like Christ. Example from Jesus Christ. Mk 1:35 Dr Luke records eight occasions when Jesus prayed. Mostly Jesus chose the morning hour when he was most fresh. We see there is always interdependence in both the Father and the Son.(Jn 5:19-20).It seems Jesus feels the need of having unceasing communion with the Father everyday. He received renewed strength, renewed encouragement and instructions everyday from the Father. He came into the day with authority and confidence. How much more do we need to spend QT with the Lord? What are the materials required for the QT? It is best to find a quiet place and get away by yourself. Bring your Bible, Pen, Note Book and get comfortable and prepare to meet with God. How to select the passage? Preferably start with the first four Gospels and followed by Epistles and others. Select a book and read it systematically at least a chapter. But try to prevent from becoming mechanical. How to spend time in Prayer? You may follow the ACTS pattern A for Adoration ( aaradhana): What aspects of God ‘s character do I want to praise God for today? C for Confession(paap sweekar): What specific area of my life do I want to confess to God ,repent and ask for God’s help in conquering? T for Thanksgiving (dhanyavaad): What specifically do I want to thank God for ,today? S for Supplication(prarthana ka Vishay): In what area of my life do I want God to help me in? Is there anything that I need today to bring more glory to God? How to do QT? a) Spend few moments to be still and focus your thoughts. b) Pray briefly asking God to guide you. Ask God to open the eyes of your understanding so that you can see clearly and understand what He is saying to you. c) Follow the reading for the day and write down what you’ve learnt Read preferably twice Meditate
