We should consider a special assessment in the presence of the following AUTISM RED FLAGS:

6- 12 months
 No big smile or joyful expressions  High pitched squeals
 No response to attempts of shared  Fixations in objects
enjoyment  Social and emotional passivity
 Don’t seek out for parent’s gaze  Over sensitive to stimuli such as sound or
 No cooing or babbling touch
 Lack of eye contact  Feeding problems (over sensitive for taste
 No interest in people’s face or smell)
 Failure to respond to name

12 months
 Any signs of regression  Poor imitation
 Poor eye contact  Failure to respond to name
 Po pointing or gestures  No sounds like: “ma”, “ba”, “na”, “da”
 No reaching or waving

16 months
 Any signs of regression  No exchange in back-and-forth smiles,
 No single words sounds or gestures

24-36 months
 Any signs of regression  Difficulties with sensory integration (sight,
 Can’t explain what he/she wants sound, touch, taste, and smell)
 No 2-word phrases  Odd interest in fans, lights, spinning
 Echoing what others say  Some children can have a rich vocabulary
 No spontaneous speech and be socially active, but there is some
 Repetitive behavior or insistence in eccentric way in how he/she talks, or it
sameness sounds strange to other people’s ears. Or
 Difficulties transitioning from one to he/she is attached to an inanimate object
another activity (throws long tantrums) like a spoon, or has preference to
