This book is offered in love and peace to all those who can use
it to help themselves. It is not written as an answer to anything
and everything that may be wrong with you. That answer lies
only within yourself, but this book can help you get down
inside of yourself so you can find that answer. It is not a hard
book, not written in high-flown, abstract, metaphysical terms
which are understood only by the writer. It is a book which is
meant to be understood by people for they are the ones it is
meant to help. Once you have read it, it's up to you and God to
make it work.

Introduction
I am in strict agreement with Charles Collins' ideas and
especially his book, ABC's of Life. He stresses the point that
people should know themselves and understand how and why
they get sick or well. You may wonder why a person gets well
spontaneously. This it is due to an enthusiastic desire to get
well, coupled with the forces you will understand after reading
the ABC's of Life. The reader who practices the lessons in this
book can put everything together and arrive at a successful
conclusion.
In my opinion, Charles Collins is trying to establish positive
thought patterns in the reader's mind, so that lie may
comprehend the effects of his thoughts and desires. I am sure
the reader will be a better person for acquainting himself with
the knowledge and understanding that is put forward for his
benefit.
My knowledge, accumulated after delivering over 6,000
babies and treating thousands of patients over the past half-
century, has led me to a profound desire to convey this idea to
my patients. Now, finally, here is a book that conveys my
ideas so simply.

This is the book that I wrote some 30 years ago that changed
my life and maybe you should let it effect yours.
"The ABC's of Life" is deceptively simple. It is easy to read
but it helps you to get hold of some of life's deepest truths and
make them a part of your life.
There are many books written about the power of "positive
thinking" however this is the only one that has drastic simple
proof that it actually works. The "ABC's of Life" book is
based around a very simple plant experiment that quickly
shows the reader that their very own personal thoughts are
capable and do energize or destroy cells. This simple
experiment that you can do PROVES the power of your own

You can do each and every exercise, stop where you are told
and meditate, and above all be very truthful with yourself.
THEN you will change your life, NOW!
Yes, you can start now and in about 30 days you will be a

Remember it is your choice as to what you want to do with
your life, and only you can change it. That is IF you really
want to. Many, many people do not want to change. Why
should they? They have so many people feeling sorry for
them!
We all learned when we were babies that to get attention all
we had to do was cry and BOY would we get attention! Well,
many of us are still in that old way of thinking! ARE YOU?
You see, if you have the courage to change then you can. So

a lot of work for you.

Yes, this life on this earth in the 21st century is what we are
talking about. You know that entity called you. By choice I
mean yours and not your...
 mother's, or
 father's, or
 wife's, or
 husband's, or
 society's, or
 anyone else's choice but yours.
How you live it is your choice and only yours.

1. Do I really have a choice?
2. Do I want to be happy?
3. Am I enjoying my sorrowful condition too much to give it
up?

and LOVE Now then as you go through this book you will

This may not be easy for some as those negative things have

light in it, what happens? . . .
the darkness disappears.
So it can be the same with you ... you can light up within and

YOUR THOUGHTS HAVE


POWER
Many people are very sick in this society that we live in at this time. There are
many people who are very miserable and going to doctors and taking many
pills, some to relax themselves and then some to give them energy. Yet the
people living in the uncivilized world somehow are very healthy and take no
pills! The author has spent many years working with sick people and has
traced over 90% of all their dis-ease to a traumatic experience in their life.

Several hundred people visited the author with various illnesses. Some of their
physical problems were arthritis, emphysema, ulcers, high blood pressure, etc.
In all cases in which studies were made, their sickness started six months to
one year after a traumatic experience in their life.

If you are currently suffering from a disease, then why don't you ask yourself
two questions:

1. How long have I been sick?

2. What happened in my life six months to two years before I got sick?

You should stop now for at least ten minutes and meditate on these two
questions ... really think about your body and when did your problem start. Is
it possible that a traumatic experience had anything to do with it?

Now ask yourself the following questions:


 Can anyone else talk for you?
 Can anyone else walk for you?
 Can anyone else eat for you?

Of course the answer to the above is NO. You know someone else can bend
your arm, but NO one can think for you! You know that you can be watching
a TV program and your mind can be on anything else that you wish it to be.
You see this is the one thing that you can do all by yourself! If your thoughts
do have the power to create then maybe, just maybe, you actually create your
own world!

I want you to do the following experiment. It is a very simple one, but it has
quite an effect on everyone who does it. It will demonstrate to you the power of
your thoughts.

The above picture was done by Fran showing that happens to carrots when
you send love or hate - they either flourish or die.

First: Get 6 to 8 raw carrots and cut the tops off; the part that you normally
throw away.

Second: Place the tops in two bowls with a little water in each.
Third: Label one bowl with a "-" (negative) and the other bowl "+" (positive).

Fourth: Place them on the windowsill to get sunlight.

Fifth: Daily take each bowl down and talk to those tops separately.

 The "+" bowl- instruct them to grow beautiful . . . you know that they
are beautiful. . and that you want them to be strong and healthy.
 The "-" bowl-you should instruct them to be ugly ... not to grow ... give
them hate ... and give them all the resentments that you have.

Many people feel that they cannot tell a plant to die, but remember that it is
just an experiment and that you were going to throw away the tops anyway.

I had a very close friend of mine try this and she did as I instructed, BUT
when she put the negative ones back on the window A she thought in her mind
that she really didn't mean those bad things she had said! Guess what? Both of
the groups grew the same! I then told her that she should try the experiment
again and to only give one love and leave the other alone. She was very
surprised to see the difference.

In a few days you will notice a difference. WHY??? Because your thoughts do
have the power to create! Yes . . . You actually are able to control something
with your mind! Now ask yourself, since I controlled something outside my
body, what about me? What happens every time I think negative or send out
hate? What am I causing to happen to my body?

Some people actually reverse the growth with the carrots, the tops in the
negative bowl grow and the positive die. If this happens to you then I suggest
that you do the experiment again.

Some people have the experience of both dying. If this happens to you, then
you should try the experiment again. Do it until you get it right.

THE ABC'S OF LIFE

Meditation What & Why


I define meditation as that ability to become very quiet and
look into oneself, because we have all the answers and all the
power within each of us.
You notice I said to become very quiet, to me this means that
every cell in your body must be relaxed.
There are many methods of learning to relax and all of them
are excellent.
If you already know how to meditate, then just follow your
approach. This book does not go into this area as there are
many books just on that subject which am sure you may find
helpful.
Chapter 5
THE ABC'S OF LIFE

Really Look At Yourself


In this chapter I want you to look at yourself in a new light. I want you to see what you are
really like, not what you think others see in you, but what you actually are like.

Meditate on the drawing below and think about this, who are you really?

Where are you? I know that you are reading this book, but where are you mentally? Is your
mind fully on this book or are you thinking other thoughts? Please remember that to be
successful you should do only one thing at a time.

Do you like yourself? As the old saying goes. - . "If you don't like yourself, then no one else
will." - So many people really don't like themselves, they think so little of themselves. But
you know YOU is all you have! Yes that is correct, you, the inner you is all that you have!
You don't own or control any other person. I realize that you may think that you do, but you
really don't. Each one of us has our own mind and we can think any thought that we wish! All
the THINGS we use or have are ours only for a few short years. The only thing that we truly
have is our inner self, and so all that we really need is to like ourselves-remember the carrots!
We had better like our bodies.

Where are you mentally? Think about this in relation to money, love, sex, and physical things.
On what do you spend your time? How can you make more money? How can you achieve
more? Or, how can you love yourself more and how about loving others? Do you say, "How
can I get others before they get me?" Or, "How can I give more to others?"

STOP . . . reread the beginning of this chapter, look at the picture and meditate on the
previous questions before you go on.

You know that when a baby is born he is perfect, yes, as were you! You, too, were perfect
when you were born. What happened between then and now? I know you blame your parents,
boss, society, mate, and the list goes on and on. BUT can you really blame another person or
things for how you feel right now, or where you are right now? YES, you can, but are they
really responsible - what about you? Did those other people or things really think for you and
did they really get you where you are right now? I say NO! I think man ENJOYS blaming
others, it is the easy way out. So are you copping out on life? Remember the story of Adam
and Eve? Adam blamed Eve for taking the apple, and she blamed the snake, BUT did she
have to take it? Or did Adam have to take it? NO. Someone can hand you a physical thing and
you can refuse to take it-the same goes for mental trips!

We need to STOP blaming others for where we are right now and STAND ON OUR OWN
TWO FEET. Maybe you don't want to change, and that is fine. If you like your problems,
then you can keep them. But if you want a better and happier life, then it is time to look at
yourself, to accept the responsibility for yourself.

STOP and meditate on the last three paragraphs for about ten minutes. Ask yourself:

Could this be me?

Now I want you to make two lists, remember this is your workbook and these are your lists.
No one is going to see them except you, yourself, so write what you really want. The two lists
are what you think are important, so take your time.

Now ask yourself:

 Why are these things so important to me?


 Will these physical things really make me as happy as I thought they would?
 If they do make me happy, how long does that happiness last?
 I know that we have been told that they are supposed to make us happy, but for how
long?
 I know that we buy a new car and we think that we will now be happy, but how long
does it last?

STOP, and meditate over the above for at least ten minutes and ask yourself how does the
above apply to me? Or am I special!

Another way that you should look at yourself is - do you flow with life, OR do you fight it?
You wouldn't drive on a busy interstate in the wrong lane, would you? I know that I would
not! Well the same principle applies to life-many of us struggle against it, and we need to
learn to flow with it. We need to learn to look on the bright side of life, and have a good
attitude. The sun comes up every day and all the darkness disappears, every day starts a new
life, and you can too, if you wish. Do animals worry, or do they just live? You too can start
afresh every day, IF you wish.

Let's compare a person with a drop of water. This drop of water is high up in the mountains
where the air is clean and life for that drop of water is very simple. Now suppose that drop of
water had a choice, either to flow down stream, or stay there. If it stayed, it would not get a
chance to experience life. If it stayed, then the pond would become stagnant - as many people
have done. They have not ventured out into life; they have held onto the past. They have not
ventured out to find out what life has to offer them, or what they could give to life. That drop
of water has another choice-to flow down the stream and live a full life. Do you want to
become stagnant and stale or do you want to live? I realize that the 'water drop' could read
about life, and be told all about it, but that is much different from experiencing it. You can be
told what an apple tastes like, but until you taste it you really don't know what it tastes like, do
you? So with life my choice is to swim with the current, what is yours?

In review of this section of looking at yourself, perhaps you have taken a new look at
yourself; if you haven't then PLEASE re-read this chapter and ask yourself:

 How can I use this material?


 How does this apply to me?
 It really applies to each one of us, or are you already perfect?

THE ABC'S OF LIFE

Why Changes Are Necessary


Maybe you are asking yourself, why do I really need to
change? And you are thinking that everyone else has to do
something and I really don't have to, because it is really
everyone else's fault. Do you remember the carrots?
In this chapter we will take a deeper look into you and what is
wrong, or what limitations you have around you and why they
are there, as well as how you should spend your time.
You know many people go through life with blinders on
themselves - only seeing a little. Many people see so little;
they are like a house with only one window, and that window
may have no view.

In this house as you will notice, there is only one window


facing east, which is great to see and enjoy the sunrises - but
how can someone living in that house see sunsets? How can
they enjoy the warmth of the southern sun or the cold from the
north! Who would want a house like that? Well, aren't some
people's lives like that? What about yours?
Stop and meditate on this, think about yourself and what
blinders you have on you, OR do you have any?

Here you are in the center of your life - the center of your own
world with all of your restrictions and barriers - your own little
weighted world. Each arrow represents a barrier YOU have
placed on yourself.

What type of barriers do you have?


Possibly you would answer, "Gee, I would like to do that:
 but I can't, or
 but it won't work, or
 but I'm lonely, or
 but I'm ugly, or
 but I'm too tired, or
 but I fear the unknown, or
 but I'm too fat, or
 if I had the money, or
 if I only had some friends, or
 but I must eat certain foods, or
 if I weren't so old, or
 if I felt like it,"
or the list can go on and on. Perhaps you can think about some
others that are unique to you.
Some of us live in a rather tight little weighted world of
limitations we have put around ourselves.
I know that you want to remove some of these barriers, but as
we all know, it isn't easy. However, remember NO ONE put
any of them there BUT you, and therefore you must remove
them yourself.
STOP now and review the list. Add some of your own if you
have some more. Then cross out all of those that you feel do
not fit you. As you think over these barriers, you are probably
thinking how hard it is to remove them. But I am sure you can
drop them one at a time - some of them anyway. Remember
the story of the tadpole-he had to give up his tail to become a
frog ... and all you have to do is give up a few simple thoughts
you put on yourself ... OR ...
You can hold onto all these limitations and barriers and stay in
your narrow little world as long as you want to. BUT you can
get out and live NOW; it is your choice. Remember the drop
of water - it could have stayed in the pond and become
stagnant, or get into the stream of life and flow with it. Do you
want to become stagnant or flowing? As the water flows over
the rocks, you too can flow into a new experience of life every
day.

I feel the whole purpose of life is to LIVE it, NOT to shy away
from it. Let's not become stagnant but LIVE NOW. You see it
is your choice, if you want to live, then start it now.
I have talked a lot about living now, yes right now this very
minute. I am not talking about living in the future or the past,
but right now. You know it is impossible to enjoy the food you
ate yesterday, again today. Because what you ate has already
been swallowed and you cannot taste it anymore, so why think
about it? Isn't it impossible to relive any experience, no matter
how much you want to? So why do people spend so much
time thinking about yesterday? Do you?
Then there are some of us who only think in the future, you
know the type, and tomorrow - or when Jim comes home we
will. But they are only living in the future. I am sure when you
planned for others to do something-they didn't, or it just
doesn't work out like you had planned or thought it would.
Another disadvantage of living in the future is that you don't
have time to enjoy the now.

How do you spend your time? I suggest that you notice the
following drawing of a time pie:

As you look at the "pie" you will notice that 5 % of the time is
spent on the past. This is a good idea, to spend 5 % of your
time looking back on your life and seeing where you went
wrong, and what lessons you can learn from the experiences
that you put yourself through. Every experience that you have
gone through was for some reason, and therefore you can and
should learn a lesson from it. Life is like a school. We go
through life with many experiences and it is our choice as to
what we learn from each. So you should spend no more than
5% of your time looking back and learning from yesterday.
You should then spend 5% of your time on planning what you
will do in the next time period. Use this time to plan what you
want to do, what you want to become, and how you plan to get
there. But remember, if you spend too much time on that you
will not have time to enjoy the NOW.
Then YOU have 90% of your time to live NOW! We should
spend all that time in doing our thing NOW. If you want to
watch TV, then watch it. Do not try to read, think of going
fishing, or worry about when Jim is coming home - but only
watch TV. Since you can only think of one thing at a time,
please give the thing that you are doing at that time your
fullest consideration and thought.
You will soon discover that when you only do one thing at a
time, and really give it all your thoughts, that the hardest and
most unpleasant job will become great and your time will be
spent pleasantly.
So we have discussed why changes are necessary, because we
need to change NOW. Ponder on the points in this chapter so
that you can see where in your life you need to change, and
START NOW.
Reread this valuable chapter to realize and understand more
about why changes are necessary in your life.

THE ABC'S OF LIFE

The Laws That Control Us


There are many types of laws that affect our life. There are
society's laws, laws of the physical universe, and laws of the
mental universe. These laws not only affect our lives, but they
actually control our lives. As we learn to understand them
more, then we can use them to our advantage.
You know that this business of living is the most important
thing that you have to do, and that your most valuable time is
right now. Man has landed a space ship on Mars, however he
doesn't know how to live happily with himself in this civilized
world. So now, we have become a super intelligent giant in
terms of the physical universe; but what about man ... man and
his mind?

This is one area in which each one of us can grow. When we
understand more about the laws, then we can use them to our
advantage, and why not - you control your car, so why not
control your mind. Remember it's yours, and only yours, so
let's learn and understand these laws and what effect they have
on us.

Let us now look at the drawing about the laws and you will
notice in the center of all the laws is MAN. He is controlled by
all those laws. The more you understand them, then the easier
you can live.

SOCIETIES LAWS - These laws are the ones that are
written by man for man. For example: the speed laws, which
we are all aware of. It makes no difference what age, creed, or
color you are - these laws, as all Society's laws, are written to
govern the speed of automobiles. You may not agree with the
limits - you may feel they are too fast, or too slow, - that
makes no difference, it is still the law. If you break that law
you can expect to be punished. You can take steps in the
legislature to change the law, but as long as you live in this
society and drive a car, its laws govern you.

LAWS OF THE PHYSICAL UNIVERSE - These are the
unseen laws-they are known to man but they are not written
down. One of these laws is the law of gravity; others are the
laws of color, electricity, etc. We all know about these laws
and we respect them, understand and try to use them to our
best advantage. Man has the choice of how to use each of
these laws. An example is the law of electricity. This energy
can be used to light a room OR it can be used to kill someone,
the law doesn't care - the electricity doesn't care - the maker of
the law doesn't care - only the user of the law cares.
Let's consider the law of gravity. Age, sex or personality
makes no difference. If a person steps off the top of a ten -
story building, he MUST fall. You can drop a book 100 times
and each time it will fall at the, same speed! Isn't it wonderful
that the laws are there and man has a choice of how to use
them? He can use them whenever he wishes and however lie
wishes. They are automatic and always work, as in the next
realm of laws. This is a very important point to ponder. The
laws in the physical universe are always operating the same
way every time.

LAWS OF THE MENTAL UNIVERSE - "Whatsoever a
man sowed he shall reap." What a statement! This is the law
of cause and effect in the mental universe.
You don't plant corn and expect to get squash, do you? You
don't jump off a tall building and not expect to fall, do you?
Then why does man pay so little attention to the law of cause
and effect?
Remember the carrot experiment: you sent love or hate, and
something happened! You did something, so your thoughts
ARE things, they really control something!
Do you expect the same to happen every time - it will you
know - just like the law of gravity.
You know most people place the blame on the effect and do
not look at the cause!
Take for example an ulcer: we blame food, cut the ulcer out,
etc. When are we going to stop blaming things or others and
stand on our own two feet?

MAN IS IN HIS RIGHT PLACE BECAUSE HE THOUGHT
HIMSELF THERE!
Yes you did, you are totally and completely responsible for
yourself. You have NO one else to blame for your problems. I
know that you don't want to believe that statement, but it is as
true as the law of gravity. Each one of us is responsible for his
own self, because he thought himself there. Remember the
carrot experiment? You gave love or hate and what happened?
The little carrots did exactly as you told them too do - so
THOUGHTS ARE THINGS! I know that it may be too heavy
a responsibility for some of you to face, and if you don't want
to, that is your choice. But it is a fact that every thought you
think does manifest into a physical reality tomorrow or
sometime in the future.
STOP - meditate on the above very important point for at least
10 minutes.

You know that the mind is your automatic self that operates
like a mirror. Every thought you send out comes straight back
to you. You know you love and feel happy. You hate and you
feel sad. The law of cause and effect has no choice; it must
work the same every time. I am sure you have heard that you
are your best friend or worst enemy. Why? Because no one
else can think for you and you are the product of your
thoughts.
STOP - MEDITATE - ask are you really your best friend? Is
there anyone else closer to your innerself than you?

You see you cannot break the law of cause and effect any
more than you can break the law of gravity, but by misuse,
either law can break man. The law doesn't care; it just is and
does. The law doesn't suffer, only man does. Many religions
teach of a place called Heaven or Hell. Who puts you there?
Does God, or do you put yourself there by misuse of the law
of cause and effect? Yes, you bring it on yourself.
By understanding the law, man is able to change his condition
all by himself. You know that a room can be dark for 100
years and then if you light one little candle, what happens? All
the darkness leaves. So it is with your life - it can be dark for
years, but you have the power and choice to change it now!
We can change from sad to happy NOW, as we learn to love
ourselves. Isn't that wonderful!
It is a LAW that whatever you put into your brain and/or life,
you get out of it. Also since no one can think for you, you
have this wonderful chance NOW to light that one candle and
as it lightens a little, add more love until you have a bright
light. STOP and ask yourself:
 Can I really use this mental law to help me?
 CAN I change my life now?
 Is it really possible?

Let's discuss pain for a few minutes. If your car knocks, you
put oil in it, don't you? Your auto engine is telling you that
something is wrong.. . . it is the same in our physical body.
When it hurts it is just a signal that there is something wrong
with our thinking. Actually that is the only way that the brain
has of telling us that we are not in harmony with our higher
selves.
Here is a list of physical effects and their metaphysical causes,
which you may be interested in:
holding on to the
Arthritis
past
Asthma tension
Backache burden bearing
High blood pressure fear, tension
Cancer resentments
Colds confusion
Deafness not wanting to hear
Diabetes lack of love
Eye blindness not wanting to see
Hemorrhoids holding on
Headaches confusion
Emphysema tension
Skin rash over sensitivity
Ulcers worry

These are only a few of the major problems. When we have an


illness we need to look at the cause, pull the weed from our
mind. Do it just like the farmer does with his crops, and plant
a new and beautiful opposite thought.
If you aren't sure what the cause is that is causing your
problem, then you should meditate on it and ask yourself
WHY - and wait for your higher self to tell you the answer.
Remember that your higher self always knows everything
about you.
The more you understand the mental laws of cause and effect,
the easier life can become for you and the sooner you can be
free from the bondage that you put your self in.
You should remember to be patient with yourself. All this
relearning takes a lot of time. But I know that you can do it,
because you really want to.

THE ABC'S OF LIFE

The Mind And How To Use


It
This chapter covers the mind, and how you can use it to your
advantage, rather than just being used by it as a puppet on a
string. But before we discuss the mind, let's first understand
what KISS means:

K keep
I it
S simple
S stupid

You see man has made life so very complicated and it really
isn't necessary, so let's look at ourselves in KISS terms, O.K.?
<<<<<<>>>>>>
The mind is made up of two different parts: the conscious and
the subconscious. Each has its own separate function and
operates completely separately from the other, as you can see
from the list.

has feelings no feelings
has desires no desires

As you will notice by the list, there is quite a difference
between the conscious and the subconscious. Actually the
subconscious is exactly like a tape recorder; it will only reflect
what has been put on its tapes.
Remember seeing a child learns to walk. He has a very hard
time at first, but with practice he becomes very good at it and
soon he begins to run! The conscious mind thought how and
when he learned how then it became automatic. At that point
the subconscious took over and he no longer had to think how
to walk. Now what happens is that when we want to walk our
conscious mind asks our subconscious mind how and the mind
plugs in the walk tape and we walk without having to use our
conscious mind. You see the conscious mind taught the
subconscious mind how, and from that time on it became
automatic.

Please refer to the drawing with "the mind as a light bulb" and
you will notice that the pointing fingers are actually thoughts
that are fed into the subconscious mind (the tape recorder)
from the outside world, known as race suggestion. Have you
ever walked into an empty house and felt warm and happy, or
cold and unhappy? This is due to the vibrations left in the
house by the many people who were there before you. Have
you ever noticed that some towns are very interested in the
arts, while others are more interested in manufacturing? This
is because of the vibrations of the people in that area. You
may also notice a difference in the vibrations in the country
and city.
STOP - Please reread the above so that you understand what
the mind is all about.

To better understand what effect past race suggestion actually
has on us now, let's picture a newborn baby. This baby has a
clean set of tapes in his subconscious mind. Then what
happens? Some kind relative looking at this beautiful new
baby says, "I hope that baby doesn't take after his father and
have his terrible temper." Someone else may say, "I bet he has
"X" disease when he is only 20 years old, because his mother
had that!" Do all these thoughts go onto the baby's blank tape?
YES, that is what happens - the new baby will pick them up.
Remember the carrot experiment? So part of your problems
today are due to what has been fed into your subconscious
mind by past race suggestion.

We also have great news media in this country. You know you
hear that the flu is coming and how bad it will be . . . There
will be a bad epidemic. They say, "It is very bad and many
people will be sick, and some will die." We are all told to get
flu shot now. What does this do to you? Are you affected?
You must have heard of doctors giving placebos (sugar pills).
These pills have NO power to get the person well, BUT they
do! Why? Because the person had faith in the doctor who gave
it to him! You see the mind is so very powerful!
What about Aunt Susie, you know the nice old lady in her 80's
who broke her arm and the doctor told her that since she was
now 86 years old that it would take her six months to heal.
Then she asks him why it should take so long, as it was the
same break that she had when she was eight years old, and
then it only took six weeks! We all know that every cell in our
body is only 11 months old, then why so long to heal an old
person? Could it be because of race suggestion? Is this why at
a certain age we get old looking, our bodies get very tired? I
think it is all due to race suggestion. We know what people
have told us and we have picked it up and filled in our tapes in
our subconscious mind.
STOP - meditate on the above for five minutes. Be sure you
understand the effect others have had on you

Man does control his conscious mind and this is great, as this
is the only hope for changing the tapes in the subconscious
mind. YES, no one, but no one can control your conscious
mind but yourself. Ask yourself who controls your thinking?
You may say someone else does BUT do he or she really?
Your conscious mind IS the only thing that is completely
yours. No one can think for you, and therefore you can think
whatever you desire. No one controls your thinking and
naturally you cannot control anyone else's thinking. Hitler,
during the Second World War, tried to control his prisoners'
thinking, but could not do it. Even when he tortured them
greatly, he could not control their thinking! But since all of us
can control the conscious mind, we can learn to use this
power; we can reprogram the subconscious mind. How?
Please try the following experiment and you will be surprised
by your own power.

Exercise #1. For the next three nights repeat to yourself as
many times as necessary, to be sure the following thought is
the LAST thought on your conscious mind before going to
sleep. You may need to repeat the short mantra ten times or
100 times, but it must be the last thought on your conscious
mind. The reason for this is that it is a proven fact, that the last
thought on your conscious mind goes into your subconscious
mind and works there all night. By works there I mean that
you will actually be changing one of your tapes. So for the
next three nights repeat: "I will wake up happy. " Then notice
the difference in your attitude!
After you have been able to notice a change, and not until that
time should you go on to a further exercise. The purpose of
this simple one is to prove to you how easily and simply you
can reprogram our tapes.
Now I want each of you to make two lists. Remember this is a
workbook for you, and therefore you should think very
carefully about them. And since no one else will see these,
then it is to your benefit to be very truthful.

You should add to these lists daily as you think about yourself,
remembering that this is your list, and since no one else will
see it, you owe it to yourself to be VERY honest. Refer to the
drawing on in Chapter 5 and only put down your true self.
Let's look at that true self and stop blaming others, as this is
your list about young their list about you. Ask yourself, what
is good, really good about me? Don't let false modesty get in
the way. Write it down. Do the same about what is bad.
This may be a long list or a short one, it really doesn't matter,
as long as it is the true YOU.
After you have noticed a change in how you feel when you
wake up - and NOT until then-you should start using your list.

So there is no reason to go further in your workbook, until you
have mastered the sleep technique. You must take things one
step at a time if you really want them to work.
<<<<<<>>>>>>
Now let's look at your list. Number them in the order that you
feel needs change most or what you feel is most important.
Let's assume that #1 is that you don't like yourself! Now we
want to change our self-image. Therefore, repeat this new
mantra before going to sleep: "I'm alive now and I love
myself."
<<<<<<>>>>>>
It is very important to get the word NOW in the phrase so that
your tapes will know that they should change now. Also it is
very important to keep the mantra very short, as you may
forget what you are to say. For the next few nights you should
tell yourself this until you notice a change in attitude. After
you have noticed a change, then go to the second most
important item on your list, and on and on. Remember, it took
you a long time to get where you are and you need to be
patient with yourself as you have all the time in the world.
Another problem that many of us have is that we allow our
lower selves to run our lives. When we do, we don't allow God
to enter our lives. We are too busy holding onto the past,
friends or material things. When a person is thinking that way
there isn't room for God. To change this, repeat "let Go and let
God, " before going to sleep. By telling our subconscious
mind this, it will let go of trivial things and the highest good
will be yours.

Always remember - this is your life, you can change it


whenever you want to, as fast as you want to.
The reason that you should work on only one thing at a time is
that one thing at a time is all a person can do well. As you
know, you can break one pencil at a time, and the same is true
for habits. You didn't get them all at once, and you won't lose
them all at the same time. If you try to break 50 pencils at one
time, you will find it as impossible as breaking 50 habits all at
once.
It took a lifetime to acquire all those habits, and there is no
reason to become discouraged if you don't completely change
your life and personality in just a few days. Be patient and
understanding with yourself. Be very happy as you see each
bad habit drop from your life. Isn't it GREAT that you can do
it - just like you grew the carrots!
You are probably thinking-boy - it sounds so easy. It really is.
All you have to do is start.

STOP...AND ... THINK about what you have read so far in
this chapter. It is the most important so far. Ask yourself "Do I
really know what to do? Do I really understand? Do I really
want to change?" If the answer is YES then do it, starting
NOW. You know that your mind is yours and only yours so
use it now for your highest good.
<<<<<<>>>>>>
There is another way to use your mind to affect your
relationships with others. The approach is as simple as the
sleep therapy we discussed previously. This new method is
called dream therapy. Direct yourself to dream about the
relationship between you and another person - mate, friend or
whoever-and tell yourself that, in the dream, your relationship
is perfect. Do not say, "They will change" or "I will change,"
only "I will dream about X, and see that our relationship is
perfect now." You may or may not remember your dream. It
really makes no difference. It will still work for you.
Consider yourself as A. When you dream, you direct your
higher self to contact the higher self of "B." The two higher
selves work out the problem. Then shortly your relationship
improves. Try it. As you expect the relationship to improve,
and want it to, it will.
There is another way to use your mind to improve conditions.
This treatment has three steps.
 FIRST: As the Bible states, man is part of God.
Recognize that you are part of that Supreme Being.
 SECOND: Spell out exactly what it is that you desire. If
it is more money, then state exactly how much.
 THIRD: Then give thanks as though it were already
received, and release it so that the thought can manifest.
That is like a farmer planting corn. He plants it and then
waits. He doesn't dig it up to see if it is growing. Have
the faith and know that it is growing in your heart and
mind.
For example, if you want money then put yourself into a
meditative state and say something like this:
"There is one supreme power in the Universe now, and I know
that I am part of this wonderful power. I now ask for and
expect to receive $1,000 now. I do not know from where this
will come, or how it will arrive. I only know that since there is
an infinite supply in the universe, it is mine right now. For this
wonderful gift, I am very thankful and release this thought into
the Universe for divine power to do the rest."

This is probably the most important chapter in the workbook.
It teaches you three simple techniques to change your
subconscious mind and thus change your life. Therefore be
sure you master the methods, step by step. How very simple
life can be. As we have seen, you can change your life and
conditions by any of the following techniques.
1. Sleep therapy
2. Dream therapy
3. Treatment

THE ABC'S OF LIFE

Loneliness Versus
Friendship
Do you realize that loneliness is the number one problem that
people EXIST with? Note I said exist with as they do not live
with it, they exist with it! What about you?

Actually it is just a state of mind or feeling within that no one
cares!
Why have some of us arrived at this state of mind? Years ago
when our forefathers founded this great country, few had that
feeling. Very few of the farmers near my ranch in Virgin,
Utah, have it. When someone gets stuck on the road, or has
any type of trouble, everyone turns out to help. Each knows
the meaning of the golden rule! They go out of their way to
help others.
But what has happened in the cities across America? In the
cities, the people have the attitude of "get the other guy before
he gets you." What a change! We have come a long way from
earlier days, and I wonder WHY?
STOP and ask yourself: Is it true what the author is saying? Is
this the type of environment I exist in?
The experience of living in southern Utah for a couple of years
taught me a valuable lesson and from it I have learned a new
way to live - a new golden rule.
DO MORE FOR OTHER THAN THEY CAN DO FOR
YOU!
You know that there is no greater satisfaction than giving
without expecting something in return.
Isn't that quite a revelation! You know that down through the
ages this is what the great mystics have been telling each one
of us, so why don't we listen and practice it?
STOP-Reread this chapter and think on the statement - DO
MORE FOR OTHERS THAN THEY CAN DO FOR YOU -
for five minutes.
NOW - yes now think of today, have you:
Gone out of your way to get or gone out of you're way to
give?
This is your choice. No one else is really watching you, but
you know what you are thinking and doing. Remember the
chapter in which we talked about the Laws. Remember the
carrots - YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU GIVE! Please pause
and think, "How can I give more?" Then write your thoughts
down.

Are you wealthy? I don't mean as far as money goes, but are
you wealthy with friends? My father once told me that if I
could have one true friend that I would be wealthy. Notice I
said true friend. In asking him what he meant by a true friend,
he said, "Someone who would give all they had without
asking why, or when will I get it back?"
 Would you give half of what you have to your best
friend?
 Would you give a quarter of all you have to your best
friend?
 Maybe you would give him 10% of what you have,
without asking questions, or would you?
 We only get what we are willing to give.
Remember our new golden rule?
DO MORE FOR OTHERS
THAN THEY CAN DO FOR YOU!
You know from your carrot experiment what love will do and
what hate will do. You also know what love projected will do.
So why be lonely? Why do you think you are lonely? It is your
choice. You know how to stop blaming others and live now.
The results of this new way may be shocking to you. But you
can handle it. Some of you are thinking to yourselves, "But I
only think good of others." But do you? Do you really?

Here is a little experiment to try. To the next 10 people you
meet, I want you to smile and send them love. Then to the
second group of 10 people you meet, send hate. You can do
this in your car, or wherever you are, so long as they are
people that you haven't met before. Notice their reaction. Then
realize that you get back whatever you send out.
So now realize the power of your mind, and how you attract
loving people, simply by projecting love. You will find, as you
project love, you will only attract that type of people.
STOP - Reread the above and try the experiment. After you do
this and see the results then proceed with your workbook.

There is another secret to keeping and growing in a
relationship with a new person. HOW? Ask yourself, who is
the most important person to me? You are. Yes, you are, there
is no one that is any more important in the world. You may
ask yourself, how does this relate to my relationships with
others. The point is that we must love ourselves before we can
love another person!

You may say that is selfish. No, it isn't. How can you give
something you don't have? Therefore, if you don't love
yourself then you have no love to give. And if you don't love
yourself, how can you expect anyone else to love you?
<<<<<<>>>>>>
We are made with two ears and one mouth, therefore we
should spend twice as much time listening as we do talking.
When you meet another person, do you spend all the time
talking about yourself? If you do, you will find that the other
person does not really enjoy you. But if you listen and ask
questions about the new friend, you will notice that he is
interested in you, because you show an interest in him. As you
develop interest in others, you find a lot of new friends and
you will no longer be lonely. So you need to get out and be
interested in new people. Show a real interest in them. Do
NOT talk excessively about yourself.
Never, never tell friends what to do, how to act, or how to lead
their lives. You may know people who do this. They think
they know it all and when they spend their time telling others
things wrong with them, what happens? Their so - called
friends soon leave, and they are very lonely again. Therefore if
you are tired of being lonely, look at the way you treat others,
and see if you should change.
STOP - Meditate on the above and see how it relates to you.
Does it? If so, what changes are you going to make?
But suppose you are shy. I know a lot of people who don't
want to go out or just don't know how to get into the stream of
life. Remember the water drop? Do you want to become old
and stagnant? Or do you want to become part of the great
living universe?
Do you feel sorry for the turtle? He can't get out of his shell,
but you can. You don't have to spend your whole life in a
shell, unless you want to. It is your choice. You are luckier
than the turtle, because you can change your self - image. You
can change your environment, and your friends. All you have
to do is DO IT.
Have you ever seen a chicken hatch? He pecks at the shell
until it breaks, and he comes into the light from his darkness.
If you are timid you can break that shell, just like the chicken,
and get into the light. You can get into that stream of life.
It is your choice. No one else can do it for you. But all you
have to have is the desire and you can do it.
HOW?
Very simple, use your MIND. Remember the chapter on the
Mind? All you have to do is to use it to reprogram yourself.
Stop and review this chapter on loneliness. You know that you
must be a friend to yourself and project love.

Chapter 10
THE ABC'S OF LIFE

The Law Of Happiness

In this chapter we are going to discuss the fact that happiness


depends NOT on things around us BUT on our attitude!
I recently read of J. Paul Getty's brother. He lived in Africa,
worked with the natives, was happily married for many years,
and had children and grandchildren. Every Christmas he sent
his brother a card which he signed something to the effect "to
the man who has everything, but has nothing."
What did the richest man in the world have?
 Money - yes
 fame - yes
 Children - yes
 many wives - yes
 It seems he had everything. But do you really think he
was happy?
How many times have you bought a new dress, a suit, or
whatever after seeing an ad saying that to be happy you should
buy this or that? Or possibly you have taken a trip to some
great place thinking that it would MAKE you happy! Did you
find that using the articles or going on the trip made you really
happy? No, of course not, and what a shock!

We live in a modern society that is very prosperous. One of
the reasons that it is so prosperous is that from the cradle to
the grave we are told in this society what we must do to be
happy. This is done through advertising such as to be happy
you must: ... use certain diapers for your baby and he will be
happy!
 ... send your children to certain schools, and they will be
happy!
 ... buy certain toys, and the child will be happy!
 ... dress a certain way to be happy and to impress others!
 ... smoke a certain brand of cigarettes and you will be
happy!
 ... buy a new car every year and you will be happy!
 ... eat certain foods and you will be happy!
 ... join the "in" group of people and they will make you
happy!

I could go on and on, but I am sure you now get the idea. To
succeed in this country you have to be told what to do! We are
not allowed to think for ourselves anymore! We dare not be
different. We have all been told what we need to do to achieve
happiness in this great country of ours. BUT haven't we really
been sold short? I say YES, we have been sold short on life. If
you feel God meant it to be this way, then why are so many
people today on pills and going to psychiatrists? Why are
there so many escape (from life) artists turning to alcohol and
drugs? Why don't people care about each other?
OR did God give us all we needed within ourselves to be
happy ...
Does HAPPINESS come from our inner self OR is it
something outside ourselves?
STOP . . . and think, meditate on the above until you realize
what the author means in this chapter thus far for you.

Do you realize that the greatest happiness is found in the
simple things, the free things of life? What about a baby's
smile? What about a letter from a friend? What about simply
caring for each other? What about a sunny day? A bird
singing? A walk in the woods? . . . Yes true happiness is
FREE and found in the simple things of life!
True happiness doesn't depend on a full pocketbook. That may
add to your happiness. BUT the real wealth is from a rich
heart and a mind full of rich thoughts.
Therefore a rich man can be miserable and a money - poor
man can be immensely RICH! No wonder the younger
generation is changing its guidelines. They are turning from
society's guidelines back to nature! Maybe, just maybe, they
are smarter than the older generation.

Please STOP now and ponder each of the following questions
and see how they may fit you.
1. Do you think happiness is a state of mind? . . . WHY?
2. What can I do to change my mind for me?
3. Can anyone else change my mind for me?
4. When should I start this change?
TOMORROW OR NOW ?
We need to learn to live, love, and enjoy life NOW and when
we live in the now we will be happy now!
You know that this is your life, and it is your responsibility to
do with it, as you desire. We know that since you grew the
carrots, you realize that what you are today is a product of
what you thought yesterday. I realize that many people do not
wish to accept that statement, however we really have NO
choice. You had control over those carrots, and they did
exactly as you told them to do, didn't they? If they were a
product of what you thought, you certainly are the product of
your thoughts. I realize that is quite a statement, however it is
true. But if you want to go on through life and blame others
for your problems, that is fine. Apparently you aren't ready for
this great new life that can be yours NOW.
But you know that you have a choice why not go ahead and
accept that new life NOW. LIVE LIFE NOW! Man has been
tied down by things so long, no wonder he has forgotten how
to live.
STOP ... Now here is another exercise for you to do right now.
I want you to go into a park, beach, woods, desert, or just your
backyard and look at nature. Get on your hands and knees and
look at the ground! Yes, get very close to it and look at nature,
and enjoy what it has to offer. Look into the grass very closely
until you see some beauty. Then start daydreaming, think back
to when you were a child playing in nature! Remember????

Now that you are back (and I do hope that you took time to do
the above - this is your life, and all I can do is give you
guidelines, you have to do the exercises) wasn't that quite a
trip! Did you realize that nature is happy? Did you find it that
way? As you left man's world and entered nature's, did you
really find any way to improve it? Could you make better
grass, or rocks, or flowers? There is peace of mind and
harmony in nature, when you really let yourself get into it.
BUT it is really a shocker, to get away from all those THINGS
that MAKE you happy and find the simple things with real
harmony.
Stop and think on the above. Do you now realize that things
really do not give you the happiness that you thought they
would?

What is happiness? Doesn't it really consist of being perfectly
happy with what we have, as well as what we do not have?
Therefore happiness is
THE FACT THAT WE ENJOY WHAT WE HAVE AND
NOT HOW MUCH WE HAVE.
Socrates once said that he went to the market and saw what he
really didn't need and why. He actually talked himself out of
things, mainly because he knew that he was happy and that
they would not make him happy! Can you imagine man today
doing that, going shopping and deciding why we don't need all
that stuff? Do you really need all the things you have now?
In conclusion, we now should realize that things do NOT
make us happy, but that happiness is a state of mind, and that
is all the more reason for learning how to use your mind to
your advantage, to reprogram yourself.

Never Compromise Yourself


You are all that there is! You are the most important person
there is. WHY? We have learned that NO one else can think
for you, as you cannot think for anyone else. Therefore YOU
are the most important person there is right NOW!
Before you started this workbook you, like many others,
probably felt that you were just a result of other people and of
your environment. Now, however, I hope that you are taking a
new look at yourself. I know that you must now see yourself
in a new dimension.
You have seen the difference in the carrots. Remember that
you made them grow or die. NO one else had anything to do
with that, did they? No, you did it all by yourself! You
actually had control over their growth. Since you were able to
make them do as you wished, then don't you have the same
control over your body, life, and future? You see, since no one
can think for you, talk or act for you then YOU do have
absolute control over YOU.
STOP - Meditate on the above, and understand that you
MUST STAND ON YOUR OWN TWO FEET!

Yes, you must never compromise yourself since you are the
greatest person alive. Is there anyone that you really would
change your life with? That would mean that you would have
to give up all of your good and bad thoughts and everything
else about you and live like someone else. You may think at
first that it would be nice to be someone else, but as you think
about it you will change your mind. Because no matter how
bad you may think your life is, there are parts of your life that
you really have enjoyed. It may be your family or whatever,
but there is bound to be a little part that you wouldn't want to
give up.

Do you remember the chapter when we learned that we were
the center of our own world? Yes we learned that each one of
us created all that is around us. Therefore never compromise
yourself, as YOU are the most important person alive, aren't

You know that a rose just wants to be a rose. It doesn't care to
be an ear of corn. Members of other species just want to be
what they are supposed to be. BUT man wants to improve
nature! So many men want to change the plan and do
something else! All we have to do is BE! When we try to do
something else we get into trouble, don't we? Actually what
we should do is follow the inner self and just BE. Do not try to
live like someone else. You now know that to be happy is to
enjoy what you have, and that to buy things does not give us
happiness. All we have to do is to BE. As you learn not to
compromise yourself, you learn to be a full and complete
person.
I know many of you spend much of your time trying to please
others, but how can you? Can anyone else truly make you
happy? Then how can you make someone else happy? YOU
CAN'T!
Some of us probably are very hard on ourselves, and condemn
ourselves. But it states in the Bible, man is made in the image
and likeness of God, and then each of us must be a part of
God. Therefore if we condemn ourselves, aren't we
condemning God? As you remember the carrots, you will
remember what happened when you gave hate. We know that
we get back whatever we project. So remember NEVER
COMPROMISE YOURSELF

You know that actually you only have one DUTY as a living
person. That duty is to yourself. The Golden rule is to love thy
neighbor as yourself. It doesn't say to love your neighbor more
than yourself, but as much as yourself! So never compromise
yourself ... You should love yourself first. If you don't love
yourself, then HOW can you give any love to another? Can
you give away something you don't have? Of course you can't.
So your main duty is to love yourself!

How To Refuse A Request


When someone asks you to do something, do you feel guilty if
you say no? Why do you feel that way? You know that no one
but you actually knows what is right for you. You may have
been told a certain way to act and think was the only correct
way to live. Yet, no one has been living your life and actually
knows your thoughts, so no one has the right to tell you what
is right for you.
<<<<<<>>>>>>
If you feel guilty when you say NO, it is because you ALLOW
the other person to lay a trip on you. Yes, that is why most of
us feel guilty! When will we learn to no longer fear
condemnation from others, to know that we do not and cannot
please others? You may think that you can actually please
others, but can you? We know no one else can make us happy,
and if that is the case, how can we make someone else happy?
So there is no reason to worry that others will condemn you.

Remember, just because someone else says you should do
something, it is not your obligation to do it. You do NOT have
any obligation to any other living person above the obligations
you have to yourself! You first must find real happiness within
yourself before you are able to take on more responsibility.

When someone asks you to do something that will only please
them - REFUSE it! Because when you try to do something
from which you will not gain any happiness, to please
someone else, then you will find that you will resent doing it.
When you cannot do something out of love, then by doing it
you will suffer. Remember the carrots! I realize that many of
you have taken on certain responsibilities, such as marriage.
You have committed yourself to do certain things, but when
that arrangement becomes a burden then you had better take a
new look at it. We as humans want so much to help others that
we put ourselves into real boxes. When someone asks you to
do something you should think it through carefully and
DON'T attempt anything that you aren't sure that you can
complete. When you start something and can't finish it, you
will feel guilty. So be careful about what you accept. We
should be careful to look any situation over completely, seeing
not just how much work there is now, but how much work it
can become. As the old saying goes, "look before you leap."
Look ahead as far as you can see and imagine.
You should always think ahead. You know trouble grows
quickly and silently. Have you ever known trouble that has
just gone away by itself? It gets worse, doesn't it? So before
you take on more responsibility, think ahead, BEFORE you
accept it.
When someone asks you to do something, have that inner
wisdom to see where it will lead you. You know you may be
getting yourself into a real box, and it would be better to say
no now than to wait until you are in the box. So think through
any request to see where it may lead. If it will end up being a
type of job you will not want to be involved in, then have the
courage to say no, now. Remember that no one is responsible
for what you accept but yourself. Only you can avoid trouble
for you.

Many of us find ourselves in a situation, which is bad now. If
that is your case, then make plans to get out of it NOW.
WHY? Because it will get worse. You would be much better
off out of a job, divorced or whatever than to continue in your
problem. Believe me, when you are in an unbearable situation,
it will get worse. You know that everyone has his saturation
point. A glass can only hold so much water. So it is with each
of us. If your situation is unbearable, get out of it NOW!

In summary, remember that you are the only person
responsible for you. You now have learned the wisdom of
refusing some requests, because you see them in a new light. It
is not what the request is today, but where it will lead you to
tomorrow.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR


Charles Collins, the author of this book, is an
individual who has dared to be exactly that, an
individual. Born and raised in North Carolina,
he led a fairly conventional life until well into
his thirties. He was married, fathered children,
and was extremely successful in business. In
fact, he was successful enough that it was not
any disappointment in that world which made him look further
for answers. He just knew that something was not quite right.
He had all the trappings of the American dream, but not the
inner peace that he really wanted
As a result of his discontent, he did something, which few of
us ever have the courage to do. He dared to give it all up and
set out on a search for something. He didn't know what the
something was, but he knew he would recognize it when he
found it, and he knew it had something to do with helping
people. He lived in various parts of the country, and
eventually settled in a remote section of Utah. He built a
home, and began to study about healing and the use of inner
energies, and most important, he healed himself and made his
world more whole. He was the first person to come forward to
be tested to prove man could control this unseen energy by
moving it in or out of his body at his will. For articles and

He is not a man content to sit on the mountain and meditate,
though. He knew his place was in the world, so he came down
from the mountain and began to work in the world. He has
dedicated his life to helping others to find themselves as he
has, and this book is one of the ways he has chosen to do it.

people who wish to grow mentally by increasing their use of
their brain.
