HISTORY OF THE POST OFFICE

Gorontalo Post Office is located at Jalan Nani Wartabone No. 15 RT.01 RW.01 Ipilo Village, East City
District, Gorontalo, Gorontalo. The village is located in one of the main roads in the city of Gorontalo,
right in front of the Office of Empowerment and Family Welfare (PKK) Gorontalo. At first glance we
know that the Post Office Gorontalo is a place where the only place to send a letter or disburse money in
the form of a package of government programs. In the past, its name when it was built by the Dutch in the
1910s called the Office of Post and Telegraphs. So,

office, telegraph function just no longer in

one of the witnesses of the colonial history of the
seizure of power by US-led forces Nani Wartabone.
Because after Nani Wartabone and troops encircled
the city of Gorontalo and around dawn, Commander Veld Politie WC Romer and some agency heads in
Gorontalo surrendered on January 23, 1942. Thereafter, at 10:00 Gorontalo time, Nani Wartabone lead
straight red flag raising ceremony white accompanied Indonesian national anthem at the Post Office page.
In front of the assembled masses, Nani Wartabone accompanied RM Kusno Danupojo read the text of the
proclamation of independence, as follows: "On this day, January 23, 1942, we are a nation of Indonesia
who are here already free, free, free from any colonial nations as well. Our flag is red and white, our
national anthem is Indonesia Raya. Dutch government has been taken by the National Government. In
order to maintain security and order. "
The reading of the proclamation was greeted by a roar of mass frenzy that flooded road along the Post
Office, with water mixed with tears of joy emotion. After hoisted at the Post Office page, Sang Saka
Merah Putih finally fluttering around the city of Gorontalo. It adds to the atmosphere of patriotism of the
people of Gorontalo. Now, Gorontalo City Post Office serve as heritage which is protected by Act No. 11
of 2010 on Heritage, under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Heritage
Preservation Hall Gorontalo.
