“Discuss how the use of social media could enhance your employability when you graduate from
University.”

Technology and social media today play a vital role in today’s society and as our generation continues
to grow, the concept of technology and how it’s used will only improve. Social media today is used in
everyday lives to keep in contact with family and friends, share memories with others, keep updated
with what’s happening around the world, and it’s also well used to enhance employability. It’s
amazing on how powerful technology already is today, and the limitless possibilities that can arise.
After graduating from university, social media is definitely a platform that can be used to enhance
employability. Due to technology, social media offers many different platforms for individuals to use,
as well as it’s a type of network in which these platforms can bring people together. Furthermore, it
makes it easier for employees to find the type of job they’re looking for, and it also helps employers
find the right employee for their business.

Social media has many benefits, especially when it comes to enhancing employability. In this day and
age, improvements in the media is only seen to go up from here. There are many different social media
platforms that are and can be used in order to help people in their career developments. Not only are
the platforms an importance in the development of one’s career, however also the way that one may
use they’re creativity to generate their dream aspirations. There are many different forms of social
media platforms that are used for career development, like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
just to name a few. Personal profiles including one’s experience, education, identification, interests,
occupation, contact details, professional photo and even skills are the types of details that can be
inserted into an individual’s profile, so that employers searching for employees will be able to
determine qualities they are searching for, and request for interviews, depending on what they are
searching for (Escoffery, C., 2017).

Not only do individuals use the media to connect with the bigger world in order to further develop
their careers, but there are public companies that successfully use social media and its platforms like
Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, where there are billions of dollars invested in their future (Nikitkov,
A., & Sainty, B., 2014). It’s said that from this, there are developed information systems that enable
businesses to collect information about potential employees. Not only is social media changing the
way that businesses are managed, however, it’s also presenting the way that employees are building
their careers. This is where it’s crucial for individuals and businesses to come together to network and
connect, creating a team that can only grow. According to He, C. (2016), he distinctively talks about
how social media today benefits graduate students to seek internship opportunities. This is all because
of how today’s social platforms can “build and facilitate trusted relationships” (He, C., 2016, pg.1038).
“Social networks seamlessly enable existing relations and facilitate building new ones in leisure and
professional domains alike” (Benson, V, 2014). Taking an example from Twitter, it’s said that
professionals use that specific platform to connect, critique and create. These three specifics is what
makes success not only for a business, but for an individual to grow (Social Media and the 21st-Century
Scholar: How You Can Harness Social Media to Amplify Your Career.,2018). With this, it’s essential for
that platform to be used frequently by that individual in order to make success. This is as no work can
be completed, without hard work put in.

Through this research of how social media enhances one’s employability, there are many sources
that come together and collaborate on the reasons how. Due to technology, social media offers
many different platforms for individuals to use, as well as it’s a type of network in which these

of job they’re looking for, and it also helps employers find the right employee for their business.
