Dear Friend,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I was
reading this morning in the Gospel of Luke 7:19, where it says John the Baptist
was in jail. He sent two men to the Lord Jesus and asked Him, "Art Thou He
that should come? or look we for another?" So many people look every which
way to find the character of God, the person of the Almighty. When man
disobeyed the Lord way back in the Garden of Eden all of humanity lost the
fellowship with God. We try educating ourselves to find that peace only He can
give. Some try drugs or alcohol. Others try to find the love of God through
human relationships. Others immerse themselves in good works, humanitarian
endeavors. The question is what are you looking for? Should you look to the
Lord Jesus, or do you look for another? Is there another way?
I like how the Lord answered these two disciples of John. He didn't give
them philosophy. He didn't entice them to follow Him only. He showed them His
works. The Lord Jesus told them, "Go your way, and tell John what things ye
have seen and heard." What did they see and hear? Why did He give them that
answer as opposed to telling them He is the Messiah? Remember, John was in
jail and he was facing execution. He could not afford a flippant answer. He
needed to know something concrete. He had to have an answer that had some
meat in it.
It is said that John the Baptist was the last of the Old Testament prophets.
He related to the Word. It was for the Word that got him in trouble! He needed
the reality of the Word to secure his faith and eternal future. We all, like John,
need a sure Word from God, too. One of the Old Testament prophecies
concerning the Messiah, which John would have been familiar with, says,
"Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them
that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come...
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be
unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing..." (Isaiah 35:3-6). For the first time in history, the message and the
manifestation of the Word were coming forth on a scale through the Lord Jesus
that no one had ever seen before! These verses and many more gave John the
assurance that he needed to face whatever his future held with confidence that
his life was not in vain, for the works of the Messiah were being manifest
through Christ Jesus, whom he had put his hope in! He knew what to look for,
and the works of Christ were being manifested in Israel at that time. God was
visiting His people, showing Himself strong on behalf of those who were putting
their trust in Him! It is said that people don't care how much you know as long
as they know how much you care! And these signs, which accompanied the
messages, were signs of the loving care the Lord God Almighty has towards
people, whom He loves! John knew who the Messiah was by the life that was
manifested in and through Him! The Words Jesus spoke came with power and
compassion towards fallen man. He did not come to condemn man, but save
man. He did not come to denounce humanity, but to lift them up from their fallen
condition, and to set us among the princes of the people of His kingdom! Open
your heart to Him who loves you today. Come to Him fully, for the Bible says
He will in no wise cast you out! He does love you!
John asked, "Art Thou He which should come? or look we for
another?" The Bible tells us that nobody's eyes have seen, nor ears have heard,
neither has it entered the heart of people the things that the Lord has prepared for
those who love Him. Why look any other place? He is able to do exceeding
abundantly above all you may ask or think, because He is God and there is not
another! Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him!
I invite you to our services. We meet on Sundays at 10 am and 7 pm and
Wednesday at 7:30 pm. May God bless you!
Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
