Asalamo Alaikum, kia Ora! Yasir, your last story was about the continuity of furthering your
understanding of the world around you and you are making sense of the natural, physical
and material world. You are gaining more confidence in expressing and sharing your
knowledge with other children as you have been responding to open-ended questions and
participating in all the activities. Yasir we will continue to assist you, to promote your
learning and find strategies to further engage your active exploring, thinking as well as
reasoning skills. By inviting you, encouraging you to be involved in our next programme
about Hajj and the new project of Worm Farm.

Last week when I asked the children about, what they know about Hajj Yasir you pointed to
the pig picture of Hajj in the preschool room. You then began to further enquire about why
we do hajj. You all were very quiet and receptive during the question and answers. When I
reminded you “I am a Muslim song.” You quickly said, “We are Muslim!”. I appreciated your
understanding and said, Yes Yasir we are Muslim and Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. During
the last few weeks we read the story about building Kabbha and during mat time asked the
open-ended questions about who built the Kabbha? What is Zamzam? Why we sacrifice
goat, lamb, camel and cow. I noticed you took an active part and attentively listened and
respond to the open ended questions.

Revisit: as mentioned above in the story how we support your understanding about the
world around you and provide the learning opportunities about our new project related to
information leaning about the worm farm. During last few weeks we were collecting the
food for the worms and discussed why we do not put certain food to feed the worms. For
example orange peel, kiwi fruit, bread and meat. I noticed when we put the food scraps to
the worms you said, “Teacher do they like healthy food?” This shows your awareness about
‘Healthy food’ not only for yourself but for other living things. Ka pai Yasir you are a very
clever tama/boy. Today when I asked children to draw the worm farm picture we have in
our preschool backyard on the paper you joined in and drew very well then you hold few
pencils in your hand and drew squiggly lines and looked it carefully and said, “Look teacher
these are worms in the farm.”
What is happening?

Observation shows Yasir your gaining confidence in the Centre, learning programs and
taking an active part by participating as a great thinker, your play is becoming more
meaningful as your imagination opens the door for investigation as you looked at the
squiggly lines and connect it to worms.

How can we extend this learning?

Staff will continue providing experiences to foster your exploration, thinking and reasoning
by involving you in coming project of gardening as well as continue with current projects
likes of worm farm and Healthy Heart. Staff will also encourage you to actively participate
in the running of our programme to increase your social skills.

Teacher Naema put all the information on the paper and showed us
the photo of the worm farm we have in our backyard. We looked at
the shape of the farm and found the circle shape and draw the four
compartments and talk about what is in each compartments. I also
draw banana and apple that is worms favorite food.
