Alrededor de cien años más tarde, el
cronista «Galo Anónimo» también
mencionó los conflictos armados entre
Esteban y Boleslao y documentó que ese
último «derrotó a los húngaros en la
batalla y adueñó de todas sus tierras
hasta el Danubio».[104][105][106] Györffy
indica que el informe del cronista se
refiere a la ocupación polaca del valle del
río Morava —un afluente del Danubio— en
los años 1010.[106] Por otra parte, la
Crónica húngaro-polaca afirma que
Boleslao ocupó grandes territorios al norte
del Danubio y al este del Morava hasta
Esztergom a principios del siglo .[107]
Según Steinhübel, esta última fuente
demuestra que una parte significativa de
las zonas que ahora forman Eslovaquia
estaban bajo dominio polaco entre 1002 y
1030.[108] En oposición a la hipótesis del
historiador eslovaco, Györffy menciona
que esa crónica tardía «en la que un hecho
absurdo sucede a otro» contradice
cualquier acontecimiento documentado en
otras fuentes del siglo .[109]

1. Llamado en latín, Sanctus Stephanus; en
húngaro, Szent István király; en eslovaco,
Svätý Štefan; en rumano, sfântul rege
Ștefan; en alemán, Stephan I. der Heilige.[1]
2. Štefan Veľký («Esteban el Grande») es la
denominación habitual de los eslovacos.
3. En la federación de tribus húngaras de
los siglos y , el término Gyula, Yula, Gula
o Gila (dependiendo de la fuente)
correspondía al título de uno de los líderes
tribules, el segundo en orden de rango, de
acuerdo a la bibliografía musulmana y
bizantina;[12] pero las fuentes húngaras
utilizan esta palabra como nombre personal
(Gyyla, Geula, Gyla, Iula) y mencionan que
Transilvania fue gobernada por una serie de
príncipes con esta nomenclatura hasta la
llegada de Esteban.[13]
4. Según László, la clase dominante y la
caballería armada del pueblo Árpad
supuestamente era turca, pero los
habitantes de los asentamientos eran en su
mayoría húngaros.[21] Muchos estudiosos
consideran que las teorías de László han
sido refutadas por la evidencia genética[22]
u opinan que solo reflejan la cultura de un
determinado período histórico.[23]
5. Siguiendo las costumbres húngaras
contemporáneas, Cupan adoptó el
cristianismo bizantino, al igual que la
mayoría de los pobladores de las áreas
meridionales de Hungría.[44]
6. Aunque actualmente Oszlár, Besenyő,
etc., son nombre de localidades, pero en
aquella época se referían a grupos étnicos
o tribus húngaras en Transdanubia, que
supuestamente habitaron en las fronteras
del ducado de Cupan y con el beneplácito el
gran príncipe Géza.[48]
7. Más tarde, Esteban le recompensó
abundantemente. Vencelino fue
antepasado de la tribu de Rád, que tuvo
gran poder en Hungría hasta el siglo .[39]
