Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim

- Located at Sungai Petani, Kedah

- On 1920, Sungai Petani has one hospital known as Hospital Sungai Petani. It is the first Medical
Officer Central in Kedah at that time and surrounded by estate and forest.
- On 1942 when Japan came to Malay Land, this hospital was used as their camp. After British
takes over Malay Land, this hospital was renamed to District Hospital Sungai Petani.
- On 2002, government started a project of new hospital in Sungai Petani. This hospital starts
operating on 5/1/2007 with capacity of 498 beds. As of now, the total number of bed has
increased to 628 beds due to increase in the population in Sungai Petani.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

- Follows triage system

- Has Primary and secondary triage
- Medical assistant will be in charge of this triage
- For primary triage,
o Patient is screened based on AVPU criteria (Alert, Verbal, Pain, Unconscious)
o Then patient will be classified into 3 zones (Green for non-critical, Yellow for semi-
critical & Red for critical).
o Patient in yellow and red zone is transferred immediately to emergency room for
further treatment.
o Patient in green zone is send to secondary triage for further checkup.
- For secondary triage,
o Only for patient on green zone.
o Patient’s vital signs is checked and ECG is done here if needed.
o Simple treatment for mild illness like fever or simple wound dressing is done if needed.
o Patient is classified from G1 to G4
 G1 : Fast lane (For extreme ages)
 G2 : Immediate treatment
 G3 : Can wait
 G4 : Non-emergency
o Patient is given a number to meet doctor afterwards.
o If the vital signs indicate serious condition, patient is transferred to yellow zone
immediately.
- Other facilities in emergency department :
o Asthma room
o Observation room (16 beds)
o Blood taking room for further investigations
