M3219: SURGE ANTICIPATOR / PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Designed to protect pumping stations against excess pressure. Senses low pressure condition that precedes
high pressure. Relieves high pressure build-up and protects system from over pressure condition.
The valve shall open on a low or high pressure wave. The valve is equipped with two pilots in parallel. The
low pressure pilot, adjusted below normal system operating pressure, it send the valve toward open position
adjustable by flow limiter during the low pressure period created by the pumps shut-off. The relief pilot setted
above the normal system operating pressure, open the valve and mantain the valve in open position during
the over pressure period. The valve is normally mounted in a by-pass of the main pipe line to discharge the
over flow to the atmosphere or into the suction tank.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES AVAILABLE:

 solenoid On-Off control function. A remote control switch on / off the valve position.

The graph shows the effect of water hammer caused by the abrupt pump shut-off. The peaks showed
in the diagramm are dangerous for the system.

Installing a surge anticipator / pressure relief valve however, it is possible to limit the harmful effect of
abrupt shut-off the pump.
