ABSTRACT
Formol is the name of the formaldehyde compound, also known as methanal and
formic aldehyde, belonging to the aldehydes family. The compound is in gaseous
form at room temperature and has a characteristic irritant odor. The compound is still
one of the components of cigarette smoke, showing itself to be an environmental
contaminant, and is also one of the constituents of photochemical air pollution, and
sometimes covers large urban centers because of smoke from industries. The
formaldehyde level in the atmosphere is generally below 0.001 mg / m3 in rural areas
and below 0.02 mg / m3 in urban areas. Exposure is by inhalation of gases, contact
with skin, eyes or by ingestion. In contact with the product the skin may become
whitish, rough and present a strong sensation of anesthesia and necrosis on the
surface of the skin. Ingestion of formaldehyde can cause severe pain in the mouth
and pharynx, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Anvisa also prohibited the use of
formaldehyde in detergents (detergents, disinfectants, bleaches and other sanitizing
materials - RDC No. 35, dated June 3, 2008), based on Article 5 of Resolution 184 of
October 22, 2001, which prohibits the use of carcinogenic, terotogenic and
mutagenic substances in sanitizing formulations. It is noticed that, little by little,
ANVISA has been elaborating increasingly restrictive laws to the use of the
formaldehyde and proposing substitution of this substance in several products. The
hazard is greater, depending on its concentration, duration and frequency of
exposure to the product.
INTRODUÇÃO
DESENVOLVIMENTO
(FERREIRA, 2015).
