SELECTION OF APPROPRIATE QUESTIONS
Based on following three steps
a. Item Analysis
b. Expert Opinion
c. Moderation of Panel
Item analysis procedure
• Rank the papers in order from the highest to the lowest score.
• Divide these papers, approximately into three groups.
• First group- the top scorers 1/3 according to rank.
• Second group- average scorers 1/3
• Third group- the low scorers 1/3 according to rank.
• For each test item tabulate the number of pupils on the upper and the lower
groups who selected each alternative.
• To illustrate, let us suppose that we have corrected 45 papers of a test.
• Rank the papers in order from the highest to the lowest score.
• Select 15 papers with the highest scores and 15 papers with the lowest scores.
• For each test item tabulate the number of pupils on the upper and the lower
groups who selected each alternative.
• For example, suppose 15 from the upper group and 7 from the lower group
selected the right alternative out of the 30 papers, that makes a total of 22
out of 30.
• This result show that the item has got a low level of difficulty.
• Since more pupils in the upper group got the answers correct, it reveals that
the test item is discriminating positively.
• When all the alternatives of an item are selected by pupils in the lower group,
it is concluded that the distracters had operated effectively.
Opinion from expert
• Getting opinion about the validity and reliability of prepared questions from experts
from different questions
• Avoiding unnecessary questions which is not useful
• Giving importance to needed questions
Modulation by panel
• Making arrangement of questions according to type
– For eg
• Objective type questions
• Short answers
• Essay type questions
