License Agreement
You should carefully read the following terms and conditions before using this software. If you do not agree with
these terms, return the package within 10 days of purchase, together with proof of purchase, and your money will
be refunded.
This package may include one or more diskette(s), CD-ROM(s), and/or DVD(s) containing copies of computer
software programs, all or part of which are owned by Agfa-Gevaert N.V. (“AGFA”). These media may also contain
complete software programs, all or part of which are owned by other parties (“the Other Owners”). This package
also contains documentation relating to these software programs. In this Agreement, the term “Programs” refers
both to the software programs and the related documentation. AGFA and the Other Owners retain ownership of
the Programs and the other contents of this package. You, and any other person acquiring the Programs pursuant
to paragraph 7 (b) below, are licensed to use the Programs on the terms and conditions outlined below.

Limited Use License

1 You are granted a non-exclusive license (“the License”) to use the Programs only on the terms and conditions
set in this Agreement.
2 The Programs may be used only by you.
3 You agree to use the Programs solely for your own customary business or personal purposes.
4 (a) You and your employees and agents will protect the confidentiality of the Programs.
(b) Except as provided in paragraph 7 (b) below, you will not sub-license, sell, lease, rent, distribute, disclose
or otherwise make the Programs available to any other person.
5 (a) Other than for normal use of the Programs, or to make one back-up copy of the Programs in machine
readable form, you may not copy or reproduce the Programs, in whole or in part, for any purpose.
(b) The Programs contain certain copyright notices. You must include all such copyright notices on any copy
or reproduction you make. Further, you must acknowledge that any such copy or reproduction will be owned
by AGFA and, if applicable, the Other Owners.
6 You may not alter, modify, or adapt the Programs. You may not merge all or any part of them into any other
computer software programs. You may not translate, decompile or disassemble the programs or, without prior
written permission of AGFA, create any computer software programs or other works derived from the
Programs.
7 (a) You may not sub-license, assign or transfer this License to any other person, either in whole or in part, other
than as provided in 7 (b) below.
(b) You may transfer your rights under the License to another person provided that, at the time of transfer:
You pass the Programs (and all copies in your control) to the person acquiring your rights under the License.
The person acquiring your rights signs and returns to AGFA a Registration Card (thereby agreeing to be bound
by the terms and conditions in the License). Registration Cards are available from AGFA upon request.
Following such a transfer, all your rights under the License will pass to the person acquiring the Programs.
8 If you violate any of the above conditions, this License will be automatically terminated.

Term
The License is effective until terminated. You may terminate it at any time by notifying AGFA in writing. The
License may also terminate in accordance with conditions set out elsewhere in this Agreement. You agree that upon
any termination, you will immediately destroy the Programs together with all copies, and will immediately notify
AGFA in writing.

Limited Warranty and Liability

1 If you discover any physical defect on the Program media, and return the media to AGFA within 90 days after
purchase, together with proof of purchase, AGFA will replace the media at no charge to you.
2 Although AGFA has tested the Programs and reviewed the documentation, AGFA does not warrant that the
Programs will meet your requirements, that they will function in every hardware/software environment, or
that their operation will be uninterrupted or error free.
3 Except for the above express limited warranties, AGFA and the Other Owners give no warranties, guarantees
or conditions whether express or implied, by statute or otherwise, in relation to the Programs, their quality,
description, or fitness for any particular purpose.

4 Since some countries do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, the above exclusion may not apply to
you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may also have other rights.
5 In no event whatsoever shall AGFA, and the Other Owners, have liability for any special, indirect or conse-
quential losses of profit or otherwise, or for losses of recorded data, in relation to the use or any inability to use
the Programs.
6 Since some countries do not allow the limitation or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential
damages, the above limitation may not apply to you.
7 No distributor, dealer or agent of AGFA is authorized to make any modification or addition to this statement
of limited warranty and liability.

2 This Agreement is governed by the laws of the country in which it was purchased.
3 If the Programs are used within a country of the European Community, nothing in this Agreement shall be
construed as restricting any rights available under the European Community Software Directive, O. J. Eur.
Comm (No. L. 122) 42 (1991).
4 If any provision of this Agreement is held invalid, the remainder of this Agreement shall continue in full force
and effect.
You acknowledge that you have read this Agreement, understand all of its provisions and agree to comply fully with
them. You further agree that this Agreement contains the complete and exclusive statement of the agreement
between you and AGFA in relation to the Programs, and that it supersedes any proposal or prior agreement, oral or

ApogeeX DVD Structure

ApogeeX 2.5.0 production DVDs are high quality. However, there have been
some cases of malfunctioning DVDs. We therefore recommend that you verify
the integrity of the DVD and your DVD reader by copying the complete ApogeeX
2.5.0 DVD to your computer’s hard drive (4,5 GB) before starting the installer.
We also advise you not to duplicate the ApogeeX 2.5.0 DVD for the same reason.

CAUTION: The DVD structure has a very deep directory structure. The DVD
cannot therefore be copied to any location on your hard disk. You should
create a folder on the root of your hard disk, and copy the DVD contents there.

ApogeeX 2.5.0 In the root folder of the DVD you will find the Setup.exe file which you can use
to install ApogeeX. The ApogeeX and Bin subfolders provide data which is used
Root Folder by the ApogeeX installer.

Licensing
ApogeeX is dongle-protected, using a yellow USB dongle. The dongle is supplied
with the ApogeeX Starter Kit when you purchase your ApogeeX System. The
dongle has a serial ID number.

To use ApogeeX, you will also need a license key. The license key is a unique file
that can be generated via the Agfa Licensing Portal, and is linked to your dongle
ID number. You can purchase additional licenses for extra functionality.

NOTE: The Satellite system does not need a dongle, since the ApogeeX Satellite
software is registered to the ApogeeX Server System.

28 BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALLATION

Before Starting the Installation

■ The server on which you install ApogeeX must have a working network
connection: If there is no network connection, the installer will fail. Refer to
the ApogeeX Service Guide for a detailed overview of these network settings.

■ If you are using multiple network cards, check the network card order.
ApogeeX registers on the first network card. You should not change the order
of the network cards after installation, since this will prevent ApogeeX from
starting up.

■ The computer name on which you install ApogeeX should use only the
following characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9. The name should not contain spaces,
dashes, underscores, or names longer than 14 characters since some DNS
servers do not support these characters.

■ Make sure that File sharing for Macintosh and Windows is enabled.

■ Have your ApogeeX dongle ready, but do not yet connect it to your system.

■ If you are going to use Agfa output devices, make sure that you have installed
an APIS card.

■ Reserve sufficient time for the installation: It will take approximately 45

minutes for a complete install.

■ Make sure you logged on with Administrator rights.

■ The ApogeeX production DVDs are high quality DVDs. However, there have
been some reports of malfunctioning DVDs. You are therefore advised to
verify the integrity of your DVD and DVD reader by copying the entire
ApogeeX DVD to the hard drive of your computer prior to starting the
installer - Copy it to a shared folder on the ApogeeX Server (e.g. E:\ApogeeX
2.5.0 DVD). This requires 4.5 GB of free disk space. For the same reason, we
advise you not to duplicate the ApogeeX DVD.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

2 INSTALLING APOGEEX 29

ApogeeX In addition to the ApogeeX System software, the following prerequisite compo-
nents need to be installed:
Prerequisites
■ Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). This is not required for
Windows Server 2003.

■ Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE).

■ Dongle Driver (WIBU-KEY).

■ Registration Utility

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is a universal set of data access tools
developed by Microsoft. ApogeeX uses these tools to manage its data.

When installing ApogeeX, the installer will check if MDAC is installed on your
PC, if not or if MDAC needs upgrading, the installer will install/update MDAC
before installing ApogeeX.

NOTE: If you are running Windows Server 2003, MDAC is already installed.

Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE)

Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) is a client/server database engine that

provides local data storage. MSDE is a restricted version of Microsoft SQL
Server: It is designed and optimized for use on smaller computer systems, such
as a small workgroup server. However, unlike SQL Server, MSDE has a 2 Gbyte
database size limit. MSDE is not supported on Windows Advanced Server,
Limited Edition.

Dongle Driver (WIBU-KEY)

WIBU-KEY is the most technically advanced copy protection and license

management system currently available. It is a hardware copy protection system
based on genuine encryption. It’s purpose is to protect data and programs from
unauthorized use.

A WIBU-KEY comprises:

■ software which encrypts data

■ driver software

Registration Utility
The Registration Utility is used to generate a License Request file: Using the
Registration Utility, you merge the Fingerprint and Receipt Code file informa-
tion into a single License Request file. For more information, refer to the
ApogeeX Licensing Guide.

system crash. A Failover System does not require a unique hardware
platform: It can be installed on the Satellite platform, if you are using one.
However, the Failover Operating System and disk configuration must be
identical to the ApogeeX Operating System.

! Custom Components: You can specify which components will be

installed. For more information, see “To install Custom Components” on
page 49. You must also select this option in order to install a Satellite
system.

64 INSTALLING A SATELLITE SYSTEM

Installing a Satellite System

To provide faster and more efficient use of tasks and resources, your ApogeeX
System processes may be distributed over 2 or more physical hardware systems,
providing hardware system scaleability. In this case, you need to install
additional “Satellite” systems.

When you start the ApogeeX Client, you will see the “satellite” Hardware System
icons in the Hardware pane. The Hardware System that is highlighted in bold is
the ApogeeX Server, which is running the “core” ApogeeX System software.

NOTE: After installing a Satellite system, you can later install additional
components, as described in “Installing Additional Components” on page 60.

Before You Begin ■ The ApogeeX System must be running, although it does not yet need to be
licensed.

■ Make sure that the ApogeeX Satellite has a working network which allows
communication with the ApogeeX Server.

■ Multiple Satellite Systems: You can install as many Satellite systems as you
need, although you will need the full SQL Server license if you use more than
one Satellite system (see “Upgrading ApogeeX MSDE to SQL Server” on
page 168).

■ Make sure that the name of the computer on which you are going to install
the Satellite using only the character a-z, A-Z, or 0-9. The name must not
contain dashes, underscores or spaces, since some DNS servers do not
support these characters.

■ You are advised to use the same Windows username and password on the
Satellite system as on the ApogeeX Server.
CAUTION: Do not try to install multiple Satellite systems at the same time. You
should install them one by one. You should only proceed with a second

70 INSTALLING A FAILOVER SYSTEM

Installing a Failover System

A Failover system is an exact duplicate of your ApogeeX Server, and provides you
with a system backup in the event of a major system crash. A Failover System
does not require a dedicated hardware platform: It can be installed on the Satel-
lite platform.

Before You Begin

■ Make sure that the Failover operating system is identical to the ApogeeX
Server operating system.

■ Make sure that the Failover hard disk configuration is identical to the
ApogeeX Server hard disk configuration. The hard disks must have at least
the same capacity as the ApogeeX Server hard disks.

" To install a failover system

1 Before starting, install the ApogeeX Prerequisites on the Failover system.

You need to do this since MSDE is required (see “Installing Prerequisites” on

page 33). MSDE must be installed in the same location as the ApogeeX Server
software.

2 Copy the failover.ini file from the ApogeeX Server System to a location of
your choice on the Failover system.

You can find the Failover.ini file on the ApogeeX Server System, in the
Agfa\ApogeeX folder. The Failover.ini includes information regarding the
installed Task Processors on the server.

3 Double-click the Failover.ini file.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

2 INSTALLING APOGEEX 71

You will see a list of the ApogeeX components which are installed on the
Server for which you are creating a Failover system.

At the end of the Failover.ini file, you will see the computer name associated
with this Failover file.
CAUTION: Make sure that you select the correct Failover.ini file: An ApogeeX
Satellite also has a Failover.ini file, however this file cannot be used.

4 On the Failover system, open Explorer, and double-click the ApogeeX

Setup.exe file.

This file is located in the root of the shared folder to which you copied the
ApogeeX DVD (e.g. E:\ApogeeX 2.5.0 DVD\Setup.exe).

5 Click Installation.

6 Click ApogeeX System.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

72 INSTALLING A FAILOVER SYSTEM

7 Click the Failover Install button.

8 Step through the Welcome and License screens.

You must next select the folder where you saved the failover.ini file.

9 Use the Browse button to locate the folder to which you copied the
Failover.ini file.
[

10 Click Next.

11 Select the location in which you want to install the Failover system.

We strongly recommend you use the same location as used on the ApogeeX
Server.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

2 INSTALLING APOGEEX 73

NOTE: You can also choose the same location as the Satellite system software:
In this case, a separate subfolder will be created.

12 Click Next.

You will see an installation summary.

13 Click Next again.

The Failover installation takes approximately 45 minutes. The Failover

installer will only install the ApogeeX software and MSDE: It creates share
folders for the installed components such as HotFolderRoot, JDFImport, etc.,
however it does not create ApogeeXDataStore folders, where you can choose
where to store your Raster, System, PDF, and Scratch data.

For more information, refer to “What is Installed and Where?” on page 193.

" To update a failover system

You will need to re-run the Failover system installation if you install a new Task
Processor on the ApogeeX Server after installing the Failover system.

1 Copy the updated Failover.ini file from the ApogeeX Server to your Failover
system.

2 Start the ApogeeX Failover installer, as described in “To install a failover

system” on page 70, and select the updated Failover.ini file.

This process will install only the new Task Processor.

74 INSTALLING APOGEEX CLIENTS

Installing ApogeeX Clients

The ApogeeX Client is available in two versions:

■ Windows Client

■ Macintosh Client

The Client runs on Mac OS 9.2 or higher, and Mac OS X (10.2 or higher).

The Installer for both clients is automatically shared on the computer on which
the ApogeeX Server is installed, in the following location:

...\\<ApogeeXServer>\ApogeeXSupportFiles\ClientInstallerMac

Before You Begin

This section describes where WebApproval should be installed and how it needs
to be configured. It also describes the supported operating system and web
browsers.

Where The WebApproval Application Server can be installed:

WebApproval ■ On the ApogeeX Satellite Server system.
Should Be Installed
■ On the system where an Apogee PrintDrive or PDFRip is running. In this case,
be sure to select a different TCP/IP port than the default (5000).

NOTE: The WebApproval Application Server should not be installed on the

ApogeeX System server. This is not supported.

The WebApproval WebServer must be installed on a specific TKS system.

Installing the WebServer on a different system is not supported.

Recommended WebApproval comprises 2 components that need to be installed individually:

4 INSTALLING WEBAPPROVAL 105

Normally, you should install these components on different machines. Typically

the WebServer is installed outside the customer’s firewall (the so-called demili-
tarized zone), and the Application Server is installed on the internal network
behind a firewall. In such a configuration, the firewall and routers have to be
configured to allow the following traffic:

■ Communication between WebServer and Application Server:

! one TCP/IP port: default 5000

■ Communication between Application Server and ApogeeX Server:

! File and Print sharing: 139

! CORBA

■ Communication between ApogeeX Server and Mailserver (SMTP)

! Port 25

■ Communication between WebServer and Internet (WWW)

! Port 80 HTTP

! Port 443 HTTPS

■ Communication between ApogeeX and ApogeeX Client

! CORBA

No Firewall Between WebServer and Application Server

If there is no firewall between the WebServer and the Application server (i.e.,
they are both on the internal network, as indicated in the illustration below),
then you will need to do some additional hardening that will restrict access to

Setting

! Max. login attempts: The maximum number of times the user can enter
the wrong password before being locked out.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

132 CONFIGURING APOGEEX

! Min. lockout time: The first time a user reaches the maximum number of
login attempts, he is locked out for the amount of time (in minutes) speci-
fied here. After this time has elapsed, he can try to login again.

! Max. lockout time: The second time a user reaches the maximum login
attempts threshold, the lockout period is increased to the maximum
lockout time (in minutes) specified here.

! PostScript uploads: From the list, you can choose Not Allowed,
Wellformed PS only, or Allow All. This setting is used by ApogeeX to
prevent allowing the user to upload Postscript, or badly formatted PS,
which might contain malicious script code.

NOTE: Wellformed PS contains the following header: "%!PS-Adobe-"

! Max Transfer retries: The maximum number of times WebApproval will

automatically attempt to submit a file which failed to upload.

! Retry transfer time: The number of minutes WebApproval will wait

before automatically attempting to submit a file which failed to upload.

If after the specified number of retries the file still fails to upload, the
ApogeeX Operator receives a notification. He can then choose either to
remove the file or to try again.

! Time between mail retry: The number of minutes WebApproval will wait
before automatically attempting to resend an e-mail which was not
delivered.

If this value is set to 5 minutes, WebApproval will continue trying to

resend the e-mail every 5 minutes.

Expiration

! New Password: When a user is created, his initial password stays valid for
15 days. During this period, the user must login and must change his
initial password.

! Reset by user: When a user requests a reset of his own password (in case
he forgot it), an e-mail is sent to him to create a new password. This email
remains valid for 15 minutes only.

! Reset by administrator: When an administrator resets a password for a

user, the e-mail that is sent to the user remains valid for 24 hours.

4 INSTALLING WEBAPPROVAL 133

5 Make any changes you require, and click Save.

6 Select the Printer tab, and enter the Company Name, the WebApproval URL
and E-mail Domain Name.

The information in the Company Name field is required. It is sent to newly

created users.

The WebApproval URL field is used to send a link to the user, and must be
configured correctly. You must use the full pathname, including the virtual
directory, irrespective of whether or not you selected the root access check
box during installation (see “Installing the WebApproval WebServer” on
page 123).

The information in this URL field comprises 3 parts:

! HTTP:// or HTTPS://

! The WebServer fully qualified domain name or IP address.

! The name that you selected as the virtual directory during the WebServer
installation (by default, this is ‘WebApproval’).

These parts are combined as:

http://<anyname>.registered domain name/virtual directory

For example:

NOTE: When using the fully qualified domain name, you must have a
registered domain name on the Internet. Domain name registration can be
done by various companies. Browse to www.iana.org, select iana ccTLD
Database and select your country. The URL for registration services brings
you to the website where domain name registration can be done.

134 CONFIGURING APOGEEX

E-mails to users are sent from:

noreply@<e-mail domain name>

or

<e-mail address>

The E-mail or domain name is important since many e-mail servers check the
domain name before allowing mail to be sent out. This depends on how you
configured your E-mail/domain name.

In the above example, the user will receive an e-mail from no-
reply@printer.com.

The ‘Send job activation...’ check box is a global setting. When selected,
emails will be sent to WebApproval users, informing them that results are
available for viewing. If this check box is not selected, no notifications will be
sent.

144 INTRODUCTION

Introduction
This chapter describes how to upgrade the following:

■ The ApogeeX 2.1.1 Server

■ ApogeeX 2.1.1 Satellite Systems

■ ApogeeX 2.1.1 WebApproval Application Server

■ MSDE to SQL Server

NOTE: You must first upgrade the ApogeeX Server, and then any ApogeeX
Satellites, and then the WebApproval Application Server.

You may also be using a Failover system. However, a Failover system cannot be
upgraded. You have to uninstall the Failover system completely, and then install
a fresh Failover system.

Before You Begin

If the Upgrade Installer fails to upgrade your ApogeeX 2.1.1 system to ApogeeX
2.5.0, it will perform a ‘rollback’ procedure which removes all the software
changes it has made. After the rollback, your ApogeeX System should be opera-
tional. However, to avoid any eventual problems, we recommend you backup
your data in case you need to reset your ApogeeX 2.1.1 configuration.

Before you start the Upgrade Installer, these are the procedures you should
follow:

1 Prepare your system for the upgrade.

2 Create backups of your data.

" To prepare your system for the upgrade

1 Copy the ApogeeX 2.5.0 DVD on the hard disk of your ApogeeX 2.1.1 Server
and share this folder for Windows.

2 Export all Render and PDFTrapping Parameter Sets.

To do this, create new folders on your system, and then export these param-
eter sets to these folders.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

6 UPGRADING APOGEEX 145

3 Export all calibration curves

4 If you are using Hotfolder JDFInput, take screenshots of these parameter

sets.

5 Take screenshots of your Replication Service configuration, and save them in

a folder on your system:

System Overview > ApogeeX System > Components > ReplicationService

6 Ask the customer to delete as many jobs as possible.

7 Delete any temporary files located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\Windows User\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Temp (for Server and Satellites)

8 Make sure that there is enough free space on the disk where the ApogeeX
databases are located.

Databases can double in size during an upgrade install.

9 Shrink the ApogeeX Databases as follows:

! Start the ApogeeXBackup.exe:

...\\Agfa\ApogeeX\FrameWork\Bin\D_ApogeeXBackup.exe

! Click the Shrink button.

10 Rename the Render Task Processors back to their original names.

The original Render Task Processor name can be seen in the Windows Task
bar.

" To create backups of your data

1 Make a backup of the following sections of both your ApogeeX Server registry
and all ApogeeX Satellite registries:

HKLM\Software\Agfa

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\ApogeeX

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\ApogeeX
Patchx

You can do this as follows:

! Start ‘regedit’ and browse to the correct location in the registry.

! Select File > Export…, and save this file in a safe location.

2 Copy any custom-made files or folders, located in any ApogeeX shared folder,
to a safe location.

3 Stop ApogeeX.

4 Stop MSDE/SQL by context-clicking the icon in the Taskbar, and selecting

MSSQLServer -Stop from the context menu.

5 Copy the MSDE/SQL Data folder from the ApogeeX Server (e.g. D:\Program
Files\MicroSoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data) to a safe location.

6 Copy the Agfa\ApogeeX folder from the ApogeeX Server and ApogeeX Satel-
lites to a safe location.

7 Copy the ApogeeDataStore\System from the ApogeeX Server to a safe

location.
CAUTION: A safe location is a location which is not part of any ApogeeX shared
folder. ApogeeX shares are removed/cleaned by the ApogeeX upgrade/
uninstaller.

Upgrading the ApogeeX Server

You can use the ApogeeX 2.5.0 installer to upgrade from ApogeeX 2.1.1 systems.
However, there are some limitations, as described in this section.

Before starting, shut down the ApogeeX Server, and restart your system. Before
upgrading the ApogeeX 2.1.1 Server, the ApogeeX system should be stopped.
However, MSDE/SQL should be running (check the MSDE/SQL icon in the
Taskbar).

WebServer configuration application.

Upgrading an ApogeeX Client

The ApogeeX and QmsX Clients cannot be upgraded. You need to uninstall and
re-install them.

Upgrading ApogeeX MSDE to SQL Server

ApogeeX is installed with MSDE (Microsoft Desktop Engine), a Microsoft data
engine built and based on core SQL Server technology. Since MSDE has some
limitations (only 5 concurrent connections, supports only 2 processors, 2GB
database limit, etc.) you might want to upgrade to SQL Server.

Before You Begin

■ ApogeeX must be installed correctly (running on MSDE).

■ MSDE must have been installed via the ApogeeX Installer Prerequisites
button - You should not have simply run the MSDE setup.exe file from within
the MSDE folder on the DVD.

■ You must have an ApogeeX SQL Server license.

■ You must have a SQL Server CD-Rom (and license).

As soon as this process is finished, the D_SetupSQL2000.exe application

button automatically disappears from the taskbar.

21 Select Start >Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to check
that the SQL Server is installed.

22 Select Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

23 Click the ‘support information’ link to check the SQL Server version.

If the SQL Server version is different from the version indicated in the screen
shot above, then Service Pack 3 is not correctly installed. The correct version
is 8.00.761. This version number is visible even before the SQL Server has
been fully installed - you do not have to wait until the button disappears from
the taskbar.

ApogeeX Failover

If you are using an ApogeeX Failover system, this should be running the same
MSDE-SQL version as the ApogeeX Server. Therefore, you must also upgrade
your MSDE-SQL software on the Failover system.

What to do if the Upgrade Installer Fails

You can use the following procedure to reset your ApogeeX 2.1.1 configuration,
if for any reason the Upgrade Installer fails.

" To fall back to your ApogeeX 2.1.1 configuration

1 Stop the ApogeeX Server and MSDE/SQL.

2 Stop the S_Logon Service on the ApogeeX Server (by context-clicking My

Computer, selecting Manage, and then selecting Services).

3 Delete the Agfa\ApogeeX folder on the ApogeeX Server and Satellite

systems.

4 Delete the SQL data folder (ProgramFiles\Microsoft SQL

Server\MSSQL\Data) and the System Apogee DataStore folder on the
ApogeeX Server.

5 Copy the SQL Data backup folder to ProgramFiles\Microsoft SQL

Server\MSSQL on the ApogeeX Server.

6 Copy the Agfa\ApogeeX backup folder to its original location on the ApogeeX
Server and Satellite systems.

7 Copy the ApogeeDataStore\System backup folder to its original location on

the ApogeeX Server.

8 Delete the following registry keys on the ApogeeX Server and Satellite
systems:

HKLM\Software\Agfa

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\ApogeeX

9 Import the 3 Registry keys on the ApogeeX Server and Satellite systems by
starting Regedit, and selecting File > Import.

After performing the above steps, you should be able to start ApogeeX 2.1.1.

176 MANUALLY UPGRADING APOGEEX 2.1.1 TO 2.5.0

Manually Upgrading ApogeeX 2.1.1 to 2.5.0

To know what needs to be installed (which Task Processor on which platform,
etc.) we recommend you first take screenshots of the ApogeeX 2.1.1 System
Overview for each of the hardware systems prior to uninstalling ApogeeX 2.1.1
and installing ApogeeX 2.5.0.

" To update hot tickets and ticket templates

1 Save your ApogeeX 2.1.1 Hot tickets and ticket templates to a file (File >
Save as).

The Job/Hot tickets can be imported in ApogeeX 2.5.0. The job description
will be automatically upgraded if necessary (e.g. Flattener replaced by
PDFReady). Task Processors which are not available in ApogeeX 2.5.0 are
removed from the ticket: The user has to select the correct Task Processor
replacement.

" To update parameter sets

All of the ApogeeX 2.1.1 Parameter Sets can be imported in ApogeeX 2.5.0.

1 Create a folder for each Task Processor on your hard disk and save the Param-
eter sets in the correct folder.

2 If the Task Processor has multiple operations (e.g. the Renderer), then we
recommend you specify the operation name in the file (TPoperation-param).

The PDFReady-Flattener components no longer allow you to create Param-

eter Sets (you must use the initially provided Parameter Set).

NOTE: Make a note of the default Parameter Sets.

" To update resources

The following ApogeeX 2.1.1 resources can be exported and imported in

ApogeeX 2.5.0:

■ Linearization Curves

■ Quality settings (maps)

■ Calibration Curves.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

6 UPGRADING APOGEEX 177

Unfortunately most resources cannot be exported. For these resources, you need
to have the original resource (which you downloaded to ApogeeX 2.1.1) or take
some screenshots in order to recreate the resource in ApogeeX 2.5.0.

178 MANUALLY UPGRADING APOGEEX 2.1.1 TO 2.5.0

" To update jobs

NOTE: We only support ApogeeX 2.1.1 job archives which were created after
installation of the ApogeeX 2.1.1-patch4. Jobs created with a different ApogeeX
2.1.1 patch level can pose some reprocessing issues.

1 ApogeeX 2.1.1 job archives can be imported in ApogeeX 2.5.0. However, due
to the amount of time required for archiving/importing jobs, delete as many
ApogeeX 2.1.1 jobs (which are no longer needed) as possible.

2 Before uninstalling ApogeeX 2.1.1, rename the ArchiveRoot folder where all
your archives are located. This is because the ApogeeX 2.1.1 uninstaller will
delete the ArchiveRoot folder.

When the ApogeeX 2.1.1 job archives are imported, some conversion is
performed, and the job description will be automatically upgraded if needed
(e.g. Flattener replaced by PDFReady). Task Processors which are not avail-
able in ApogeeX 2.5 are removed from the ticket. Users will need to select the
correct Task Processor replacement.

NOTE: Only the pages which are used in the runlist will be imported. Unused
pages are not imported (previous revisions), therefore the page revision
number will not be provided.

CAUTION: Some imported ApogeeX 2.1.1 job archives may display an error
when reprocessing. This occurs for all jobs which have unsupported ApogeeX
2.5.0 Production Plans.

3 To archive jobs with pages from the Public PageStore, you must use the ‘all
available results’ archive option. Do not use the ‘results marked for archive
only’ option (pages will not be archived).
CAUTION: Archive-import will not provide the required results for Public
PageStore jobs (jobs where the last Task Processor is the Public PageStore).
You need to export all PDF documents from the Public PageStore manually.
Before doing this, we recommend that you ask the customer to delete as many
PDF documents from the Public PageStore as possible (deleting Public
Pagestore documents requires the ApogeeX 2.1.1-patch4).
CAUTION: Job Archives from ApogeeX 1.0.0 systems cannot be imported in
ApogeeX 2.5.0. The following message is displayed: ‘Upgrader is unable to
upgrade the given job description’.

184 INSTALLER FAILS TO CONNECT TO THE APOGEEX SYSTEM

Installer Fails to Connect to the ApogeeX System

During installation, the following error message may be displayed:

‘ApogeeXSystemName_ApogeeXServerName_4 is not running yet. Continue

with checking its status? Beware if you choose “No”, the installation will be
aborted'.

If you select “yes” to retry and the installation still fails (and the ApogeeX System
is still running), then you can try the following procedure:

1 When the message appears, start the Task Manager.

2 Select the “ApogeeXSystemName_ApogeeXServerName_4” application

which is described as not running.

3 Select End Task.

4 Double-click Agfa\ApogeeX\launcher.bat.

5 Confirm the message “ApogeeXSystemName_ApogeeXServerName_4 is not

running yet” with Yes.

The installation should continue.

Installer is Halted
The installer may stop working if you perform other actions on the system on
which you are installing ApogeeX. We therefore strongly recommend that you
do not do anything else on the system during installation. You should also leave
the installer running in the foreground.

Cannot Open PDF Files on Macintosh Clients

If you want to view PDF data on the Macintosh client, the ApogeeX PDFDa-
taStore folder needs to be shared for Macintosh users. When the folder is shared
for Macintosh users, you need to mount it on the Macintosh Desktop where you
are running your ApogeeX Client. Note that after mounting folders on the
desktop, you need to restart the Client.

8 INSTALLATION ISSUES 185

To Install ApogeeX Without a Network

If you want to install ApogeeX on a server which is not connected to a network,
you will first need to install a Microsoft loopback adapter, or connect the
network card to a hub.

1 Install a Microsoft loopback adapter.

For more information, refer to the ApogeeX Service Manual.

2 Enable this loopback adapter connection.

3 Put the loopback adapter to the top of the list of available connections.

For more information, refer to “Installing ApogeeX on a PC with Multiple

Network Cards” on page 185.

4 Restart the computer.

Installing ApogeeX on a PC with Multiple

Network Cards
ApogeeX can only be registered on 1 network card at a time. If there are 2 or
more network cards installed on the server, these connections are listed in the
order in which they are accessed by network applications. ApogeeX will
automatically register with the first network connection in the list.

However, you can change the order of the network cards as described below.

NOTE: This procedure is valid for the ApogeeX System as well as for the ApogeeX
Windows Clients.

1 Right-click My Network Places, and select Properties.

2 In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, Select

Advanced > Advanced Settings...

All the network connections are listed in the Connections pane.

3 Use the arrows to move the Network connection on which ApogeeX needs to
register to the top of the list.

4 Restart the computer.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

186 CHECKING YOUR WIBU DRIVER

NOTE: ApogeeX will not register on a Network connection which is disabled: In

this case, the next Connection in the list will be used.

Checking Your WIBU Driver

You can verify if the ApogeeX USB dongle is recognized by the system as follows:

1 Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.

2 Select Device Manager and double click the entry ‘WIBU-BOX/U’ under
WIBU-KEY Software Protection.

The information window confirms that the USB Wibu dongle is working
properly.

8 INSTALLATION ISSUES 187

Avantra25XT on Windows 2003 Server - SE

If you Installed the ApogeeX System on a Windows 2003 Server - Standard
Edition, and you are using an Avantra25XT, you will receive the following “user
intervention required” notification:

“The PAC driver could not be initialised. The driver may not be installed or it
may already be in use”

In this case, you must manually install the PAC driver using Device Manager to
solve the problem.

" To manually install the PAC driver

1 Select My Computer.

2 Context-click and select Manage.

3 Select Device Manager.

4 Select the PAC board.

5 Context-click, and choose to install the driver.

Windows 2003 Installations

If you receive a ‘User intervention needed’ message, then the PAC driver could
not be initialized: It may not be installed or may already be in use. In this case,
you also need to install it manually.

Errors During the MDAC Update

You may receive an error when updating the MDAC. This could happen if you
installed the Q832483 Microsoft MDAC security patch.

The solution to this problem is as follows:

1 Install MDAC 2.8.

2 Re-install the security patch.

:ApogeeX 2.5 Installation Guide

188 HARD DISKS NOT AVAILABLE FOR SELECTION

NOTE: You do not have to uninstall it first.

3 Start the Prerequisites Installer again.

MDAC will not be updated, since you now have the latest version.

Hard Disks Not Available for Selection

The Installer checks which disks are available at the start of the installation
process. Any disks that you format after starting up the Installer will not be avail-
able for selection. In this case, you must restart the Installer.

Cannot Install Windows Client

When trying to instrall the Windows Client, you may see a ‘Files in Use’ window.
This is because some active ApogeeX components are using these files. In this
case, just select Ignore, and the installation will continue.
