Headmistress’s Newsletter

Issue  45  –  29  June  2018

Bronte  Fes4val
Last   weekend   we   were   lucky   with   the   weather   (and   the
football!)   as   we   all   enjoyed   a   sunny   a9ernoon   at   Cobham
Hall.   Our   Fes@val   is   one   of   the   most   enjoyable   days   of   the
year,   as   families   mingle,   enjoy   the   ac@vi@es,   watch   our
talented   children   on   the   stage,   and   sip   a   cold   drink   (or
two…..!).    The  stage  also  saw  our  finalists  from  Bronte’s  Got
Talent   perform   –   a   nerve-‐wracking   experience,   but
Karimah,   Abisola   and   Verity   were   amazing   once   again.
Bronte   Nursery   held   their   gradua@on   as   did   our
Kindergarten   –   with   the   children   approaching   statutory
school   age,   they   will   all   be   moving   into   Recep@on   class   in
September.

A  HUGE  thank  you  to  all  the  parents  (and  friends  of  parents)
as   well   as   the   staff   (and   their   spouses)   who     helped   make
the  event  so  very  special.

We   are   s@ll   receiving   the   last   amounts   of   money   from   stalls
and   other   ac@vi@es,   so   I   will   be   able   to   let   you   know   how
much  we  raised  in  next  week’s  NewsleXer.

Year  2  Li<er  Pickers

Well  done  to  the  year  2  liXer  pickers  for  leaving
the     riverfront     parks   gleaming   on   Wednesday.
Children   have   been   thinking   about   the
detrimental   effect   of   discarded   wrappers   and
plas@c  boXles  on  their  environment  so  they  were
very   keen   to   do   their   bit   to   keep   our   local   area
clean.

Pianists  at  Bronte

On   Monday   morning,   our   whole   school   assembly   once   again   featured   some   of   Bronte's   most   talented
musicians.   Darlene   and   Kai-‐Zhe   both   demonstrated   their   skills   during   this   season   of   music   exams,
showing  that  they  have  prac@ced  hard  and  got  themselves  into  a  confident  posi@on.

The   en@re   hall,   including   staff,

were   wowed   at   the   quality   of
their   playing.   One   of   the   pieces
was   also   a   duet   shared   with
their   teacher,   Mr   Scarff,   who
has   worked   hard   with   the
children   and   he   too   managed
to  play  his  own  part  perfectly!

Following   on   from   the   Bronte
Fes@val   the   day   before,   we
w e r e   r e m i n d e d   o f   t h e
abundance   of   musical   talent
w i t h i n   B r o n t e   a n d   t h e
increasing   confidence   of   our
pupils   as   they   perform   in
public.   Well   done   Darlene   and
Kai-‐Zhe.

Sports  Day  2018

With  a  new  venue  inside  the  grounds  of  Cobham  Hall,  but  closer  to  the  House,  as  well  as  a  longer  format
and  new  events  –  this  year’s  Sports  Day  had  a  great  deal  to  prove!!!

I’m   pleased   to   say   that   the   day   was   an   outstanding   success   (very   much   helped   by   the   weather)   and
thoroughly  enjoyed  by  all.    Mr  Johnson  was  very  pleased.    The  tradi@onal  events  (novelty  races,  sprints,
relays   and   300m   for   the   older   children)   were   this   year   joined   by   a   ‘carousel   of   ac@vi@es’   which   saw   mixed
year   groups   working   together   to   earn   points   for   Hood   or   Nelson.     The   older   children   encouraged   and
supported  the  younger  children  and  even  Kindergarten  and  Recep@on  ran  their  socks  off!!!

The   end   of   the   day   saw   Jude   crowned   Victor   Ludorum   for   a   second   year   running,   but   the   large   number   of
points  accumulated  by  him  and  the  other  member  of  Hood  were  not  enough  for  them  to  stay  champions
on  the  day.    Nelson  gained  the  most  number  of  points  in  a  closely  fought  contest,  so  with  the  whole  school
looking  on,    Nelson’s  House  Captain  Joseph  was  able  to  hold  the  House  Cup  alo9.

Well   done   to   all   who   took   part,   and   thank   you   to   everyone   who   aXended   and   helped   us   celebrate   the
spor@ng  achievements  of  our  children.

Year  6  Theatre  Trip
On   Wednesday   Year   6   had   their   end   of
year   theatre   trip   to   see   "The   School   of
Rock"       This   is   tradi@onally   a   highly   kept
secret   and   Madame   did   not   tell   the
children   which   musical   they   were   seeing
un@l   they   were   on   the   train.   Needless   to
say   this   was   met   with   squeals   of
excitement.

A   pre-‐theatre   lunch   was   enjoyed   at   Zizzi,
where   the   children   all   enjoyed   their
chosen  menu    plus  drinks  and  dessert.    A
short   walk   from   the   restaurant   through
Covent  Garden,  led  to  the  theatre  in  Drury
Lane.     They   were   completely   wowed   by
the   show,   as     were   the   adults   and   an
enjoyable  day  was  had  by  all.

Needless   to   say   the   children   were
complimented   on   their   behaviour   and
manners   at   both   the   restaurant   and
theatre.    Well  done  year  6.
