CEMENT SPATULA

It is made up of stainless steel

USES:

 Used to mix and handle dental cements.

ZINC PHOSPHATE CEMENTS

COMPOSITION:

POWDER: Zinc oxide approximately 90% as main reactive ingredient.

& other metallic oxides approximately 10%.

LIQUID: Aqueous solution of phosphoric acid 50-60%, aluminium phosphate upto 10%,
water 30%( controls the rate of reaction)

MIXING TIME: 1 min 15 secs

SETTING TIME: 5 -9 mins

PROPERTIES:

1. The strength of zinc phosphate cement s sufficient when they are used as a base or luting agent.

2. They are good thermal insulators and maby be effective in reducing galvanic pain.

3. It’s modulus of elasticity is high

4. They are not able to form an effective chemical barrier due to their inherent acidity.

USES:

1. Used as high strength base materials

2. Used as temporary filling materials.

ZINC OXIDE EUGENOL CEMENT

COMPOSITION:

PASTE I: Zins oxide, zinc acetate 1-5%

PASTE II: Eugenol ( oil of cloves), choline or talc, olive oil

SETTING TIME: 4-10 mins

WORKING TIME: 30 seconds.

PROPERTIES:

• Rapid setting of the material occurs after placing into the cavity.

• Strength is almost 20 MPa for unreinforced materials and 40 MPa for reinforced materials.

• Value of thermal diffusivity is similar to dentine so forms an effective thermal barrier under
metallic restorations.

• Highly soluble, leached eugenol is replaced by water leading to hydrolysis of zinc eugenolate,
resulting in disintegration of cement structure.

USES:

• As a lining materials

• Temporary luting cement.

• Temporary filling materials

CALCIUM HYDROXIDE CEMENT

It is an organometallic chelate compounf

COMPOSITION:

PASTE I:

CaOH 50%, zinc oxide 10%, zinc stearate 0.5%,

Ethyl toluene sulphonamide 39.5%

PASTE II: glycol salicylate 40%, titanium dioxide, calcium sulphate, calcium tungstate.

PROPERTIES:

 It has low low compressive strength

 It has low tensile strength
 Low modulud of elasticity
 Provides thermal insulation
 Highly soluble in water
 Alkaline in nature and has antibacterial properties
 Helps in the formation of reparative dentine

USES:

 Used as cavity lining agent

 Used for direct and indirect pulp caping
 Used as a base in deep cavities as a base
 Used in apexification and apexogenesis
