A. Course Description: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are state of the art word
processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software packages from Microsoft.
These programs are widely used in schools, offices, and homes. Today online
versions of office make these programs portable and ubiquitous. In this course
we will examine the basic operations of these programs and use them to
create classroom materials and other documents and spreadsheets.

B. Measurable Course Objectives Upon completion of this course learners will be able to:
1. Create and edit documents using Word (PI34 WTS 1,7,8,10)
2. Create and edit documents using PowerPoint (PI34 WTS 1,7,8,10)
3. Add advanced features to documents such as tables, graphics, mail merge (PI34 WTS
1)
4. Use wizards and templates (PI34 WTS 7)
5. Create and edit worksheets, charts and databases using Excel (PI34 WTS 1,7,10)
6. Perform calculations using formulas and functions (PI34 WTS 1)
7. Integrate the use of office documents (PI34 WTS 2,3,4,5)
8. Integrate the use of documents and spreadsheets as an instructional tool (PI34 WTS
2,3,4,5)
9. Create HTML documents and spreadsheets from Word and Excel (PI34 WTS 6,7,10)
10. Find help with Microsoft Office applications online or on screen (PI34 WTS 1,3,6)

C. Methods of assessment The learner will:


1. Regular attendance is expected, (Objectives 1-8)
2. Demonstrated understanding of course content including the completion of class
activities as directed. (Objectives 1-7)
Assignments One or all of these projects must be online.

3. Create a 2-4-page Word processing document showing the features of this software.
You might use this as a chance to create a set of lesson plans, a series of
worksheet/handouts for your students or a series of short document that are related in
some way. (Objectives 1,2,3,4,7)

4. Create an Excel or other brand of spreadsheet showing the features of this software. It
would be best if you could create something that would be useful in your classroom.

5. Create a PowerPoint or an online presentation showing the features of this software. It
would be best if you could create something that would be useful in your classroom.
(Objective 4, 5, 6, 7)

D. Criteria for assessment


For two credits:
1. Required Regular attendance is expected
2. 20%Participation in all course activities
3. 20% presentation project
4. 30% word processing project
5. 30% Spreadsheet Project
All projects are due on the last day of class.
