The Lord Heals All Our Diseases (Psalm 103:3) 

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and 
heals all your diseases (Psalm 103:2‐3; NIV) 

Here is a quiz – where else in Scripture do you find forgiveness of sins tied closely with the 
healing of diseases?  

The answer:  Mark 2:1‐12. 

Perhaps in the Lord’s divine wisdom, the incident in Mark 2:1‐12 is recorded for us for posterity 
to give us confidence that just as the Lord Jesus Christ can heal not just some but ALL of our 
diseases (which we can verify through sight), He is also qualified to forgive not just some but 
ALL of our sins (which we cannot verify by sight, but must accept through faith). 

This may also explain why the healing ministry is an important component of evangelization: 

Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure 
spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. (Matthew 10:1; NIV) 

As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the 
sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you 
have received; freely give. (Matthew 10:7‐8; NIV) 

Now, other passages in Scripture that are related to healing include: 

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by 
God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was 
crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by 
his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4‐5) 

Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take 
away sickness from among you (Exodus 23:25) 

Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of 
trouble. The Lord protects and preserves them — they are counted among the blessed 
in the land — he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The Lord sustains 
them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. (Psalms 41:1‐3) 

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie 
the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share 
your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you 
see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 
 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear 
(Isaiah 58:6‐8a) 

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and 
anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make 
the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be 
forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you 
may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 
5:14‐16) 

Do note that in the Bible, there are verses that seem to suggest that healing is unconditional, 
while there are also verses (including some of those mentioned above) that suggest that 
healing is conditional. 

Then, there is also an incident during Jesus’ ministry, where He first healed an invalid (which 
suggests that the healing was unconditional), but subsequently told him to “stop sinning or 
something worse may happen” to him (see John 5:1‐14). 

Not this may seem rather confusing to some of you. You may ask, “So, is healing conditional or 
unconditional?”. The answer is that for every individual it could be either. Either him/her will 
receive his/her healing unconditional, OR that him/her must satisfy certain conditions to 
receive the healing that he/she longs for. 

It is the Lord who decides whether an individual receives his/her healing conditionally or 
unconditionally, but whatever the Lord’s decision may be, we can be sure that it is based 
according to Scripture. 

Hence, if you are unwell in the body, our suggestion would be that you meditate on the Bible 
verses presented above, and ask the Lord for clarity as to which of them applies in your 
particular circumstance.
