Lesson 2 – Special Light Sport Category & Experimental Light Sport Aircraft
Original Lesson 2 Objectives:
• On a post-test, in accordance with 14 CFR Part 21 and FAA Order 8130.2, you will
identify guidance, policies, and procedures for certification of Light Sport Aircraft
including:
– Eligibility requirements
– Certification procedures
– Required documents
– Production flight test permits
– Flight Test Areas
– Routing of files
Revised Lesson 2 Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, in accordance with 14 CFR Part 21 and FAA Order 8130.2,
students will be able to:
Identify FAA policy and guidance materials applicable to Light Sport certification.
Explain the eligibility and flight test requirements an aircraft must meet to be
issued a Light Sport Certificate.
Evaluate a request for Light Sport Certification to determine that all the
documentation is correct and present.
Describe and explain the inspection and certification procedures for Light Sport
Certification.
Conduct an inspection of the aircraft in order to determine if the aircraft meets
the requirements to be issued the certificate.
Correctly fill out and route the certificate and required paperwork.

• On an End-of-Course Test and in accordance with FAA Order 8900.2A you will identify:
– Criteria for completing the FAA Form 8610-2 following a pass, fail, and/or Not
Tested O&P test.
– Criteria for completing the FAA Form 8060-4, Temporary Airman Certificate.
– Criteria for reconstructing a lost certification file.

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Fill out the back side of FAA Form 8610-2 when conducting the test.
Issue a Temporary Airman Certificate, FAA Form 8060-4, using DRS.
Correctly fill out and route all the required paperwork to the appropriate FAA
Office.
Explain how to reconstruct lost certification files.
