    Chinese Composition Task

    Write a two-bar melodic phrase and then complete the phrase with a melodic response

    (Question Phrase) (Answer Phrase)

    Once you have completed your melody, try using a drone to create a thicker texture within your composition.

    Key Words

    Monophonic: (Mono = one) (Phonic = Sound) One sound, or one single melody line

    Pentatonic: Scale that uses only 5 notes - C D E G A

    Q&A Melodic phrase: Melody that two phrases.

    Drone: Type of accompaniment commonly found in Chinese and Indian music (Notes C & G played together)

    Melodic Contour (shape); The way in which a melody moves - Ascending (up) or Descending (down).
