Internet of Opportunities.
Rafael Cota Rivas
From time to time it occurs in our life a business opportunity, some take it right away,
some others decide it's not for them and, most, don't even see it.
We know that the Internet allows devices such as mobile phones, computers, tablets and
the like to be connected to the network to offer services, primarily information and
communication. That has been, and will remain, a good business opportunity. But what
about the rest of the things in our lives? Do we need or want them connected the
Internet? The reality of demand says yes.
Not everything is electric and definitely not everything can be connected directly to a
network; however, very-low-cost-computers as Arduino and Raspberry Pi have come to
solve this problem; with them anyone with enough imagination and need can easily
connect anything. So simple, so broad. And when things are so simple and broad, then
the business opportunity is equally simple and broad.
Predictions and calculations succeed each other, and all the adjustments are always
higher, say that business potential is between $ 3.9-11.1 trillion US dollars by 2025.
But not only the business is in connecting things to the Internet and develop specific
applications to interact with and/or extract the necessary information and make them do
what we need; business is also in all the areas associated with them: mass production
and marketing are the most natural, but also the development of systems that integrate
various things, and of course, security; after all, having all things connected to the Internet
can be risky, is not the same as a hacker take control of a home computer to take control
of water valves of a dam.
The Internet of Things comes to probe that actually what we are talking whenever we talk
about the Internet is the about Internet of Opportunities.
