Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

For this particular lesson, students can access it from any device with internet, as well as in the classroom or
outside of the classroom. This is beneficial for students who may be absent during the lesson or need the
extra instruction as a review on their own time. In addition, the board can be printed so that students who
are hands on learners may have it in their notebooks or have it in their hands rather than on screen. For
students who may have vision impairments, the content can be printed out while zoomed in- that way it is
easier for students to see and read.

Lesson idea implementation:

This lesson can be introduced during or around Martin Luther King Jr. day. The purpose of the lesson is to give
students the opportunity to see that anyone can pursue their goals with determination. The students will
learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream of the world living in unity, regardless of skin color. This
board on Discovery Education can be used as a tool to teach the students about Martin Luther King Jr. and
how he contributed to the Civil Rights movement. This part of the lesson will take one class period to
complete.
The second part of the assignment is to have the students write about a dream that they have to make the
world a better place. The students will have many options to outline their dream- by writing a paper, making
a poster, or creating a board on discovery education themselves. This gives students many different options
on how to share their dream and allows the students to not feel limited while completing an activity. This
second part should take a class period as well (so two class periods in total). The students will present their
dream to the class. To conclude the lesson, the teacher will lead a class discussion on the classmate’s dreams,
which ones the students liked, and in what ways other students might get involved in one of their classmate’s
dreams.

Reflective Practice:
I feel that this lesson can impact student learning because not only does it teach them about an important
figure in history, it teaches the students that they can achieve any dream that they have with persistence and
determination. The students are free to use any productivity tool (such as PowerPoint or Discovery Education)
to enhance their individual projects.
