You are planning to set up an advice stall at an upcoming enterprise event. The
Scenario purpose of your stall is to give people advice on how to start a new business. You
will do this by creating a leaflet which visitors can take away with them.

Task 1 The visitors want to know how the business environment and current trends are
likely to affect your start-up business’s chances of success.

You will need to research and collect information on the local and national factors
which affect new businesses and explain how.

This leaflet should include information on the likely effect of the following factors
on a start-up business:

 Local factors (e.g. competitors, etc.)

 National factors (e.g. political, etc.)

You will need to include a section in the leaflet which explains how changes in the
current business environment may impact on a start-up business. To do this you
will need to use examples of how these changes have affected other businesses.

Your leaflet should contain information about current trends and how they affect
start-up businesses. Research and comment on your sources of information for
each of the following:

 Social trends
 Technology trends
 Ethical trends
 Environmental trends

Use examples from each trend to explain how these will impact on your start-up
business. Again, use news articles or any other form of research to prove you
have evidence for trends.

Remember whilst talking about trends in your leaflet you need to have evidence
to prove that the trends are true and actually exist in the UK.

Summarise your report with an assessment of the current risks, opportunities
and trends in the business environment in your local area. You should say how
these factors in the business environment will affect any new business. You will
need to back this up with evidence from your research and show that you have
used trustworthy and relevant sources of information.
