METHOD STATEMENT FOR SHORING AND DEWATERING

1. OBJECTIVE OF METHOD STATMENT

The objective of this method statement is to simplify the complex construction activities into
agreed sequential steps for which contractor and consultant shall follow in the course of the
shoring system for the ground work. It also has an aim to control the work in high quality
and safety standard with minimum impact to the environment.

2. SCOPE OF METHOD STATEMENT

This method statement presents the excavation work for the construction of pile cape in which the
shoring and dewatering are necessitating for ground supporting structure to obtaining working
space and clear surface for workers.

4. STEP BASED CONSTRCTION METHODOLOGY

The construction sequent of which will be classified in the following stages:-

4.1 Install of UB section along the shoring line.

 Set out the UB sections alignment according to shoring drawing.

 Soil boring are doing by hand

 Installing the UB section will be done by manually

 After placing UB section fill with sand the gap between UB section and hall

4.2 Install of UB section for the supports

 Install UB sections in above procedure according to the shoring drawing

4.3 Excavate the depth of 0.5m layer

4.4 Construct of wailing and supports

 Select the correct UB Section according to the drawing

 Set out the point and tag the wale to vertical UB
 Properly weld and filling the gap between wale and vertical UB sections

4.5 Place the timber flanks

 Remove the soil to place the timber flank
 After placing timber flank fill the soil in gap and properly seal

4.6 Excavate the depth of 4m layer

4.7 Follow up same procedure for the internal shoring for the pile cape excavation

4.8 Install of tube wells

4.9 Backfilling

4.10 Removal of UB sections

5. TECHNICAL DATA

5.1. List of materials and equipment

 UB (Universal Beam) sections (8”X3”)

 Timber flanks(1.25”)
 Soil boring instruments
 Excavator
 PVC pipes(6’’φ)
 Welding plant and other tools
 Water pumps(2”) and PVC pipe(2” φ)

5.2. Safety Precaution

 No person allows staying underneath the lifting load.
 Instruct and ensure workers are wearing safety device.

 After installing the UB section remove additional part above the ground which is disturbed to
workers.

5.3. Environmental Consideration

 After complete works the area will be kept in clean
 All the underground electric line and s sewage line identify before driven the UB Section start

6.0. DEWATERING
To provide efficient and effective dewatering system in the way of economically.

Introduction
If the ground water table will be above the excavation depth, the water will be collected to foundation
level. These water should be removed for construction.

Methodology
1. While excavation there should be kept two pits to collect water.
2. These pits will be covered with hollow barrels and hexagonal wire mash to prevent collecting of
sand.
3. After that water can be pumped by using submersible pumps. The rate of pump will be decided
after inspection of collecting rate.
4. The pump water will be carried to manhole and diverted to Sri Jayawardanapura Municipal
Councils main waste water line.
